Last year I purchased a Rallye 350 that had a 455 engine. I have now decided that I will sell this engine and rebuild the car with a 1970 350 engine. The engine itself is a 1970 Olds 455 with a 7040251 carb and correct E heads and cast iron manifold. I am selling this engine complete but without air and alternator brackets and power steering brackets and pump as I will need them on the 350 engine. Transmission also not included. You will notice in the videos I took yesterday, that the engine is painted gold. I assume the previous owner wanted to make it look stock in the Rallye.

Based on what I know this engine was installed in this car in the late 90's but does not have much mileage on it as this car has been driven very little since 2003 and it has been in my garage for a year now. It took me only a couple of minutes to crank it up after sitting for a year.

The car was only driven about 20 miles after I got the car, but the engine runs good and is supposed to be a correct 1970 365HP 455 engine. you should keep the carburetor. it is a 70 350 carb and would be right for a Rallye 350.

 

The carb is actually a 7040251 not 7040250 so it is the correct carb for the 455 engine. Thanks for pointing that out. I have a 250 carb along with most everything I need to build a correct 310hp engine. I do still need a cam. Do you have any recommendations? Should I get a Mondello cam or get the stock cam for the 310hp engine?

Neither stock cam or Mondello cam.There is a lot better variety out there.

Are you willing to pallet & ship that 455?

 

I would consider it. I would have to get a quote from a trucking company and figure out the best way to mount it so it would not get damaged. Would you want it shipped to Erie, PA? By the way, do you know anyone who works for STERIS Corp in Erie. I actually work for the STERIS plant in Montgomery.

I have been told that this engine is be worth around $2500 maybe somewhat less since I won't be including brackets, so I am asking $2200 plus shipping. It does include the correct carb and a new water pump.

did you get this car on ebay? if so are you happy wih it and would you doo it again?

 

I did not buy this car on ebay, but I did find it on the internet. It's a long story, but I would not do it again without going to see the car in person. This car spent most of its life in Chicago so the whole bottom is rusted out and on top of that it has been t-boned so what is not rusted out is bondo. To save the car I may have to re-body the car and repair or replace the frame. I was going to fix it up and leave the 455 engine in it. But now I am going to rebuild the car and put the correct 350 back in the car and bring the car back to what it is supposed to be. It won't be all original but it will be period correct and at least I will have saved a Rallye 350 that probably should have been junked.

Steris is pretty much all closed-up here.They shipped all the work off to the south.

 

It won't be that bad! It has just been a larger project than I expected and will take longer than I planned. The next phase now will be to sell the 455 engine so I can get the 350 engine finished. After that I can get the frame restored and then I can move on to the body.
