Free 1979 260

I have a 260 I was using to move the project around, new engine is in and I no longer need this engine.
Free to anyone who can pick it up or to scrap it goes. Pickup in Elkhart Indiana , I am 10 minutes south of 80/90.
I rebuilt the engine in 1993 , it only has about 15000 miles on it, hate to see it scraped, hope someone can use it.
has a couple of rusty , weeping freeze plugs and will need the carb tuned, I put a kit in it but never tuned it.

I've heard those engines are nearly indestructable, likely due to the low stress on components from low power output. Hopefully someone can use it instead of it going to the scrap heap.

Don't these little boat anchors have the same bottom end as 330/350?

I am busting your *****, here, but, wouldn't a small v8 be a pretty damn big boat anchor?

If somebody were to pick this up, you won't be disappointed.

I had a rebuilt 1979 Olds 260 installed in my blue 1979 Calais in 1992. The first one was badly mistreated by the first owner when I bought it in 1984 with 46,xxx miles on it, and I still got just over 100,000 more miles out of it before it was done.

I was sure to specify that I wanted a metal timing chain gear in the rebuilt motor instead of a nylon gear, Other than that, the .30 over rebuild was bone stock as you can't do much with these 260's anyway. In 30 years I've put probably about 80,000+ miles on it using Mobil One since mile one, and this motor shows absolutely no indication of croaking. It's going to be around long after I am. Sometimes I wish it would die so I could install a 350 but what the heck, it is what it is.
