Factory 12 bolt W-27 Cover - Used

Very lightly used real factory W-27 cover in excellent condition. No cracks, damage, or corrosion. Has original "patina" Still has the factory black M1239 code stamped on bottom of cover, in perfect condition. Do not have the box it came in, who knew? Was on my 70' Cutlass S W-31 for only 4 yrs. while I was in Florida and only drove to car shows! $800 plus actual shipping costs.

BTW: I sprayed a very thin or light coat of oil on the cover to protect it. Always stored in a climate controlled room in my shop.

USPS Money Order only. My Zip Code is 32327, Crawfordville, FL.

Guys:
I hope I don't upset you guys, but NOS means NEW OLD STOCK, not a used item. I know this is a hard to find item, but give us all a break, $800.00 for this seems a little ridiculous to me. If you have something to sell, give a guy a chance to purchase it for a decent price, not a I want to retire on one sale price. The LOL tag seems to mean that you can't really believe that someone would pay that price for it. Maybe I am wrong, but I think this is way out of line. Lets hear all the negative comments coming my way.
Thanks Ron

I see what you are talking about on eBay all the time but I am not sure this is one of those instances. I will make a phone call but I know a guy that may buy it.

Guys, OP can ask whatever he wants. If you don't want it don't buy it. No need to undermine the guy.

RONFX , really? just where do you see this W-27 cover described as NOS ? give us a break and keep it to yourself, bashing a guy for trying to sell a rare part is not the way to make friends here. I think you are way out of line! if it wasn't a valuable part and was overpriced I might agree with you but this is not the case! Chris

Hey:
I check this forum numerous times in a day, the original listing said NOS along w/ a LOL after the patina comment. I am not bashing him selling a RARE part, just the price he is asking for it, I thought tbhis was an open forum the exchange of ideas and parts. Next time make sure you are aware of what you are talking about before you try to undermine MY ethics. The posting was edited after the comments about the price from others as well. This is part of the problem w/ some guys trying so get rich from one sale, it prevents someone from restoring a nice car. I have bought and sold items to numerous members at a FAIR and REASONABLE price over the years. You should be upset w/ Dave, not me. Remember this next time you find that piece you need to finish a restoration and someone holds it up for ransom.
Have a nice day RonFX

I can understand your point but the bottom line is and always has been if you have something rare and valuable you gotta pay. 800 is a lot of money for a piece of aluminum but Dave is well within the price range...not like you can go down to walmart and buy a cover

For a high dollar restoration this is a great find. Only issue I see is it will lose the ink stamp because it does need to be cleaned before installing onto a "high dollar restoration". And, if I had it to sell, I think my price would be right at what Dave has it at. Nice item Dave.

Oh and BTW, the originals are different in appearance than the aftermarket, and you dont see originals come along often, if at all.

RONFX, your still out of line! and I could say the same to you ..... next time you bash a guy like Dave make sure you know what you are talking about ,how many original W-27 covers do you see for sale and for what price????? I have been in the parts buying \selling and restoration game for 30 years and don't see this as "ridiculous " in any way. further more I may not of seen the pre- edited listing but you are barking up the wrong tree and I don't see you selling any rare parts for any " reasonable" prices. I have met and talked to Dave at the Pure Stock Drags and is a knowledgeable and upstanding guy ,$800 is hardly trying to get rich off of 1 sale! NO ,I should not be upset at Dave,I get upset at vendors that sell aftermarket parts and list them as NOS and try to sell used parts for NOS prices or lie about the condition of their parts, none of which is happening here. and I have had to deal with guys asking exorbitant prices for parts I needed to finish a restoration and have either been able to deal with them or find the parts elsewhere. simple as that. what is the W-27 axle worth without an original cover? and with one?

This is an original cover and in the past 20 years I have seen less than 6 for sale on the market, again this is original. I have known Dave for many years, and he is a fair person, and an asset to this forum. There are certain parts that demand high prices, and again others that don't.

If you had an expensive W-30, W-31, and it HAD that cover or better yet, the entire axle assembly, and NEEDED the REAL DEAL cover would you pay the $800.00, buy a reproduction item, or keep looking. I know what I would do. I have a pretty special W-31 and it DID NOT have that originally, so I'm not in this game, BUT if I was, it would probably already be on my car. They DO NOT come up for sale often, REAL ONES THAT IS!!!

Check KMart....they do seem to carry them occasionally.

$800 IS RICH in certain parts of the world but I don't think Dave is planning a move to sub-Saharan Africa, Bangladesh, etc.

WTony: You can protect the stamp with a small piece of tape. Use mild soap and warm water. Then use fine glass bead and air pressure @ 40 psi to do the outside of cover. Then use Eastwoods Diamond Satin Clear for Bare Metal to protect it. I did not do the aforementioned process of using the clear, I should have, but did not.

Go figure????

Personally, I am not surprised. Old parts, especially "Oldsmobile" old parts in fine condition are like waterfront property---there is ONLY SO MUCH. I have paid what some people thought was CRAZY money for stuff----then when I tell a REAL OLDS guy what I bought for what amount of money, they were surprised I was able to FIND it all, much less at a REASONABLE price. Price a "255" carb., or a genuine W-31 balancer, or a MINT W-31 Aluminum intake----that W-27 isn't so bad is it?

I am with you Dave on that. I have acquired this stuff over 40 + years since I was with Olds and after. Hell, the hood hinges on my 70' F-85 came off the assembly line! They were given to me by a Line Supervisor.

Wish I had bought more from "Olds Salvage" though. But hey, who knew.

In 72' there were two 10' long X 5' high X 6' wide steel roll-around bins loaded (actually over flowing) with primed W-35 wings for $5 dollars each! Gezzzzs $5 each!!!!

Dave, You are preaching to the choir! I have been with a GM (former LARGE OLDS) dealer for 32 years, and I tell them some of the stuff that happened and they call BS! I really wished people believed the stuff did happen!!! I have bought old NOS parts in lots for pennies on the dollar and then boxes were thrown in what I HAD bought just to clean out the parts dept. That's just how it was!!!

LOL, I tried to contact my guy all day and couldn't get a hold of him. Now that he called me back I had to tell him it is gone. Do you have any 70/71 red inners? Put me in line for them if you have any. Also need 71 W-30 4 speed carb and distributor.

jensenracing77: No have my friend. Those kind of parts do not stay in my possession very long!

I do have a new pair (LH and RH) of re-popped BLACK inner fender plates for 69-72' that I never used. I bought them from The Parts Place for $300. Your price is $200 + shipping.

thanks

Dave Siltman: Do you remember this? Your Hurst (H) shifter handle for a bench seat car you sent me N/C and all I paid was shipping??? It is in my 70 F-85! Never will forget your generosity my man. You need anything if I can help return the favor just ask.

W-27 cover

Ok, so is there any way to determine if a cover is real vs fake for the 71 10 bolt cover ? This cover was put on in the early 80's, so I don't know how it can be a repop.. I guess for a 71 perfect resto , some bead blasting and clear coat would do the trick.
Hmmmm for sale

looks right to me. Ask joesw31 as he really knows a lot about the W-27 alumn. rears! If he tells you it is the real deal, you can "take it to the bank"!

Texture looks correct to me for an original - for what that's worth - but mine's a 12 bolt.
