wow that is a deal, but it seems to me that there are actually more 4-speed distributors out there than 4 speed carbs - just what I have seen.

I would have guessed $1500 for the distributor, here is my carb, I took a picture when I was in Colorado

My friend & I have the 0B23 dated 977's on our April-built W30's.We also have the 3509 256's.The W30 intakes have the 70 casting number, with the half word,as they were cast late-december/1969,after the mold broke & was repaired.

glad you know that because mine says olds and it is original to the car, the judges will probably take off some points because they will think it is the wrong intake.

When someone says there are two different W30 intakes, you know that there are actually three.

For what it's worth, my '70 W-30 automatic has the '977 manual distributor. I have no reason to believe the distributor is not original to the car, since it has a very early date code and the car has never undergone a numbers-matching restoration. If some previous owner swapped distributors, it would've been highly unlikely to use a '977. I've found other 1970 owners with similar circumstances.

Brian: When I went to Colorado to see the progress on my restoration I found a 979 distributor among my junk. I am sure I got it years ago with other w-30 stuff. I will be trying to trade it for a 1112036 1971 distributor for my 1971 w-30 convt 4 speed. I still need to see what distributor is in the car and Brian was trying to determine the date code needed. It is a really late car. Lee

I've only seen one legit date for the 2036 distributor for 71 W30 4-spd.It's a 70 date. The next one is May/71,which,in my opinion, was made for the 72's.
Having automatic-coded parts on a 4-spd car,and vice/vs,is not out of question. If the assemblers did not have exactly what they needed, sitting there, during assembly, they would use the next best thing.

After owning & parting a slew of these W-cars,I have documented,as well as checked with others who have done the same, and I have come up with two legit dates for the 977,and two for the 979.
As for the W31,they used the same distributor as the other 350's,so there are a whole bunch of dates, nothing special.

When it comes to carbs, the 255,256,and 258 all have 4 legit dates.Three of them in 69,and one in 70.If you have ever been to BTR Performance,in Rochester,NY,you can stand outside, and look right at the building where they were once made.
