Early 60s chrome air cleaner housing
I think this is from a 64 Starfire, but the label states 442. In any case, this is a complete chrome Oldsmobile air cleaner housing. The chrome is far from perfect, but it is plenty nice to be on a driver. $200 or best offer.
Part is located in Hudson, Ma 01749. Shipping to the continental US included in the price.

May have been re-chromed, but finish is too shiney for '65 442 air cleaner, and snout appears too small.
I have a '65 442 air cleaner on my '65 Jetstar I:

I'm gonna say original 442 aircleaner too, because the 64 big car 4-barrel aircleaner snouts pointed toward the radiator, not to the side.
Is it small carb opening like 4GC or bigger like QuadraJet?

Its a problem of context. The pie plate means nothing, as those are easily swapped. Its the same thing with the air cleaner in the following auction, which other than being painted is exactly the same. No way is that chrome finish "factory", regardless.

I had no idea this piece would spark such a debate The chrome finish isn't brilliant like a bumper would be. I don't think it is a re-chromed stock piece. I have seen re-chromed parts, and the finish on this one is not at all the same. The finish is chrome, but more dull than bright.
It doesn't have any other holes in the side for a vent. I will check tomorrow on what carb it would be for.
I was told it was from a Starfire, but I could not verify it at the time I go it. I certainly don't want to pass it off for anything it is not, and it would be helpful to know what it is from.

Looked like a nice piece for anyone wanting to dress up their engine compartment. Hats off to whoever spent the money to re chrome their painted factory piece back in the day. I put a 65 442 air cleaner on my own Starfire engine equipped car for the same reason (they are identical other than finish) and d*mned what the purists might say.

Yep, the easiest way to ID the 65 air cleaner is it does NOT say FRONT on it. Other clues are the big snout pointing to the passenger side and the flash chrome finish. The housing in question definitely was chromed and is not from any year 442.
