8.5 3.42 posi 1971 cutlass/422

I have an 8.5 factory posi with 3.42 gears out of a 1971 cutlass/422. It was rebuilt by a former GM engineer and oldsmobile fan 15 years ago but neither of us can remember what exactly was done. I bought it to put in a skylark but never used it. No drums or brakes just backing plates but otherwise complete. SA stamped in tube, casing casting number is 407296. Contact me for pics. $900 picked up in Cincinnati Ohio.

This the fourth place I've advertised it. I thought it would be an easy sale but I was wrong.

If it were a chevy 12 bolt I am sure it would be long gone. There is much less demand for a 10 bolt. If you are asking for opinions, I think $600-$800 is probably the very top end of what you can expect for an olds 10 bolt posi rear that you have no rebuild documentation on. Even then, possibly only for someone who needs an original coded rear for a restoration.

1971 and 1972 Axles Codes from 442 By the Numbers

The book I have shows SA is 2.73 ratio OPEN axle. Must have been transplant 3.42 and anti-spin added by ??

Original Stamp SS and TM code 10 bolt cover axles are hard to find and have much higher $$ Value
