I have two nice core carburetors I am letting go of. sitting since the 80s. I consider them as needing rebuilt. Inlet threads nice on both carbs.

Hi Eric,
Is the 7040250 correct for my Rallye? Would you consider this a rebuildable core - I seem to remember you posting some years ago about most of these carbs that you were finding were not rebuildable. Forgive me if I'm confused about this topic.
Anyway, if you thinks it's rebuildable and it's right for my Rallye - I'll take it.

LOL, I could not come up with a good one for years. As soon as I paid $200 for a guaranteed good core I found this one. I way overpaid for my core but I was tired of looking and it was guaranteed. I would recommend having this professionally rebuilt by someone like Sparky's Carbs but it is a rebuildable core. I will send you a PM.

Is there a reliable website or location to find what car/trans combination a carburetor part number goes to? Sometimes find conflicting information from different sources. This happened when I tried to find the car/trans for 7041251. Thanks

this site
http://www.carburetion.com/Number/bynumber.asp
is rather generic, they list the 7028255 [and 7028253 !] as proper for
"68-69 olds 350-400 exc toronado"
Which is a bit of a stretch.
Readily available 7028254 to me indicates restamps.
Also, the "Actual Picture" appears to be all the exact same sample carb, not an actual picture of the exact application number that you were looking for. Notice no photos of the exact application number such as 7028253. Kind of a lie there.
The "more info" link leads to slightly better more specific info such as the '8253 carb being for MT applications, which is still under debate at this time. It does assert '8255 is for '68 W31, which is ALMOST correct, as the pkg was called Ram Rod and not W31 until the 1969 models, but that's small nit to pick.
Also, they list the '8251 as a CUTLASS (& similar body style) with 400 and H/O with 455 carb, but fail to mention the millions of 88/98 cars that also sported this carb. Significant fail there. I'd rate that site as "good attempt, but poorly executed" overall.
BLAKE carbs site used to have the best, least-error riddled application map, but it went away a couple years ago.
This looks like a good place to get PARTS if not application info

Thanks to everyone for the information.
I will check the carburetor I have to make sure it is correct for the '71 automatic 442. Are there any visual differences between an automatic and stick carburetor?
