70 w-30 rear axle

I have a buddy that has a 70 w30 rear axle with 3.90 gears. for sale. I don't know anymore about it. he says he has the codes from the axle. and its legit. its NOT a w27 axle. His name is Kevin and his number is 814-323-5017. Its in his 64 f-85 and he wants to sell it because it doesn't fit right. I think he's asking $1500. drum to drum. I don't know anything about it. please call or text him with questions. Location is Erie,PA . Tell him Mike told you about it.

In my opinion that is too much, W30 rear or not. If it were a W27 with the aluminum center, then maybe, but I don't think a TO coded rear will bring that kind of money. But I could be wrong.

That is what "real" ones in good condition are going for, give or take.

There were a couple of guys who hung out on this site not long ago that would sell stamped / fraudulent complete and rebuilt rear axles so that made the supply seem plentiful. They also sold many other restamped 442 / W30 parts.

Carburetors, distributors, alternators, ect.

Real W-27 rears in good condition will sell for multiples of this amount.

If it were a W-27 it would be $8500 not $1500.

It is a 3.91 not a 3.90.

I have no problem with that asking price. Potential buyers can make an offer if they feel $1500 is too much. They aren't making any more of these.

The 70 Type O 12 bolt fits fine in a 64-65 Olds A body. One just needs rims with 1" additional backspace to compensate for the wider width of the differential vs the original narrower 10 bolt 8.2" differential.
