FYI, it is called a 4-Jet. They were used until 65. Then the Quadrajets were used.

4 GCs & Q-Jets were both used in 65 in Chevy's.I think Olds didn't start using Q-Jets till 66.

only chevy 396's had the qj in '65, olds and pontiac switched in '66 across the board. only buick 401's retained the 4G, along with all of cadillac for '66. the other buick engines used qj's for 4-bbl carbs. '65-'67's qj's had several "bugs" to be worked-out.

You mean like those funky diaphragm float valves that could unexpectedly leak and pour fuel all over the engine?

That wasn't a bug, it was a feature!

I'm still waiting to find out what makes this 4GC with postage-stamp-sized photographs "rare."

yeah, the toilet valve and the $h!tty well plugs. the fixes sucked too.
that was the patty melt series...
the running production change for the toilet valve was mid-'66 model year.

Just curious to your statement about the mid 66 production change. Every 66 Q-Jet carb I have seen had the toilet valve. I've never seen it on a 67 though and was wondering if you have a 66 Olds Q-Jet or have seen a 66 Olds Q-Jet that didn't have it?

Thanks

yes, i've seen them with the original toilet valve and the change. the change is in the plunger/needle. '67 and later got the normal threaded seat and needle.

Some of the 4GC castings actually say "Quad Jet" on them, which is why people think they are Quadrajets.
