Not being very smart about these things what does N mean as I have 2 cast cranks that have "N" on them but the casting numbers are 397363 which indicates a cast crank----400943 is the forged crank......

the "N" stands for nodular iron which is a mix of Iron and other metals which makes for a much stronger crank than just plain Iron. Its better than a regular cast iron crank but not as good as a forged crank.
