These "big block fender braces" I am wondering if they are what I am missing from my 70 Vista. I know the car had braces from the ft fenders to the center of the firewall but they look straight not curved- Also this wagon is a 350 not a big block. Previous owner removed them. Anybody know about these braces? Thanks.

Exactly. It's to compensate for the 455's torque. Fender braces changed their basic design in 73 due to body change (colonade styling) and were eventually discontinued in the 75 production year. Although you could still get a 455 from 73-77 they were severely down tuned to the point the braces weren't really necessary.

All 70-72 VC's had those straight braces from fender to cowl, regardless if they were 350 or 455. When the VC changed body styles in 73, the straight braces were carried forward all the way till 1977. I can not find any evidence of fender or cowl braces in pre 1970 VCs.
