Will consider a 3.23 W-27 rear trade for my 3.42 W-27.

Just curious, what makes any rear end worth that kind of money? I can buy whole running pretty decent cars for that amount. I'm not dissing the seller, I just don't understand what makes them worth so much?

They are extremely rare, had aluminum housing and cover. Made for 1970 Model year only.

So, of course, every Rich Man wants that bling for his toy.

Anyone can get the W27 *cover*
to get the entire assembly is not so easy, even just to find one for sale at all.

Might as well get some H heads and '69 H/O intake while you are at it. Some things are just hella rare and desired/ needed.

My 442 has a the regular Olds 12 bolt with w-27 cover and housing painted aluminum. Cant tell the difference any closer than a foot or so.

People that know can spot it from as far as you can see from under the car. More difference than just color.

Here's a link that will explain the rarity of this option.

It's the ecomomics of Supply vs Demand. It is believed that less than 400 units were ever produced. If everyone of them survived (which they did not) and with est. 75% of them currently installed under a car, that leaves approx 100 or so to be chased after by collectors and enthusiasts, who want one for their W-Machine.

That linked article said you could get the W27 rear on an SX.

Oops I misread your post. I think if you bought a 442 it had to be a W car to get the W27.

Sorry.....those words "the last one" always remind me of that commercial when I read/hear them so I couldn't resist. Those are cool and rare pieces.

The supply is dried up again, lol. I have a 3.91 W-27 and need a 3.23. The guy I sold my 3.23 W-27 to needs a 3.91. I am hoping to trade him.
