I could be wrong, but isn't the profile different from '71 to '72, to match the grill surround?

Correct. The parts in this ad are 1972. Here's a comparison. 71 above, 72 below.

I think it's something that most people don't really look closely at...same as the 70 fender vs 71/2 fenders. A lot of people are fine with the mismatch, but other people are picky enough (or OCD enough) that it matters a lot, so knowing before buying saves disappointment. That sort of thing tends to bother me. Years as a supervisor in the military (and perhaps a bit of my personality) tend to draw my eye to things that don't belong so they stand out like a sore thumb to me on an otherwise beautiful car. It's a bit of a curse :-(

It is also much less noticeable when the hood is up. So at a show unless someone is looking for it, it will be easy to overlook and while driving it is such a small mismatch that other motorists or pedestrians will never see it. Hood down while parked, then yes the ridge on the outside edge of the trim vs in the middle does become more visible.

No doubt its not correct but certainly an alternative to replace a damaged or missing pair (not good as a single replacement lol)

in my case the 71 molding is from my dads car, so even tho its not right for my 72 i greenlighted it . I also have the 71 stone shield emblem on there too shh.
