I was under the impression that a 1971/72 set of the fender fillers would also work (for my 1970) so I bought a set a couple years back for my 70’ 442 convertible. Am I mistaken? Do I need to buy these ones?

I believe the difference is 71/72 are plastic.

That is not correct, the 1971-72 are metal as well, but are different than 1970, which are all by themselves, that is why they are 1970 ONLY.

Must be related to the shape of the radiator support and attachment points?

The 1970 filler has a different contour and the radiator mounting holes are spaced different than the 1971-72, so that is why you need to use 1970 fillers on 1970 cars, if you put them side by side you can see the differences right away.

I have 1971 / 72 front fenders on my 1970 442. Does this change anything? Does this mean I need the one year only fillers to match up to my 1970 rad support?
