Found this recently, engine is gone, still has some good pieces left though.
Let me know what you need quick, this yard doesn't let them stay very long.

I'll bet that was one awesome looking ride back in the day! I think that's the first 'vert one I've ever seen.

Wonder why someone would junk that????? To many times the only person in your family that has any apprieciation for you baby is you. When you die it just an old ugly thing in the way to those you left behind and they call the junk man-----trust me, you spend 30 days at the shredder in any large city and watch what comes in there.....make a grown man cry.

You are correct on family members thinking our old great cars are old ugly things. My son has said that from the very beginning when I started restoring the Delta 88 I got. He does think the Delmont 88 2 dr is a little better looking car, but he don't appreciate the beauty held within the older autos. The other thing I noticed is that the younger folks don't want to bother with the effort it takes to bring them back. If it's not a fancy sports car of sort, it ain't worth messin with and there you see what happens to them. Like others have replied, "WHY" would someone put this beauty in the bone yard? Not knowing what they had for one, and or just plan STUPID? It does make you sick to see it happen. I shed a tear looking at the old girl thinking what I could have done with that... Anyway, what a shame and unfortunatly another one bits the dust.

Last weekend I drove my 65 GTO conv 250 mi sometimes at 70mph rolling along with traffic. Yesterday I drove it 140mi mostly on NC country roads and small towns.....Haven't had the top down yet.......Some say this car is worth a lot of money but I have had it 40 years and drive it all the time. It has been maintained but never restored and is far from being in perfect condition. Its not my only old car but none of my children even own a house let alone a garage so what will happen to them + all of the parts I have. I am now 72 years old so I will use them as long as I can.

I hope I can keep going until I'm 72 and still be able to drive and enjoy the hobby. Indeed, that 65 GTO is worth a few bucks, especially bein a Convert.. Not alot of them around in my part of the woods for sure. I did know a guy that had a 65-66 GTO 2 dr hardtop all white, camed and that thing would rock and roll. I would wait in the parking lot just to hear that bugger idle. I got the biggest thrill just listing to that car warm up. Never had anything like that myself, but then again, maybe someday??? Enjoy the time we have and keep driving young, they say tha's what keeps most of us going. I for sure need to get a different mind set myself to stay feeling young... lol

Stumpy I have been blessed I guess----No education to speak of and lived the first part of my life with no electric, phone, running water, and we had no car......that list is longer but how I got to this point is hard to fathom....I not only have that car but I have another 65 GTO hard top with only 19K on the odometer.......My 65 442 race car and my 66 442.......I am so lucky that life has been so good to me and my family. At one time I had 42 old cars, not all restorable, as I was trying to save them all. It can't be done as within 20 mi of here I bet there are at least 20 of the 60s era sitting in shelters, barns, and in the open. None are being cared for and none are for sale-----the one that really is a shame is a 69 Camaro pace car that has not been touched in the last 6 years----just sits there but not for sale.

What a shame. If it was close to me I'd pick that thing clean for spares.

I went back today & did just that. Most of the side trim has been riveted to the body , but I removed what was left. I got some body trim, rear convertible panels, clock, conv. top switch, glove box light, RF wheel well molding, & a few other parts. The hood seems nice, the th400 trans is there, as is the single track rearend. The header bow is gone, but the rest of the top frame is there. Top motor is gone, but cylinders & lines are still there. This thing is all bondo'd up & the frame has been patched at the cross member mounts. Rear seat is still there also. Added a few pix in the orig. post.

Scott, were the parchment window cranks decent?

I'd be looking at the hood, but it's so damn big there's no practical way to get it.
