1966 400ci 442 390925E complete engine 4-speed muncie for sale
**Update**
Motor turns just fine now after pouring a little oil in the cylinders and letting it sit.
Also, my dad still has the matching 4-speed muncie that he pulled with the motor way back when. New pics with number below. (Sorry for the large size!)
Hi All, my dad just pulled his old 400e block/complete engine he yanked from his 66 442 40 years ago out of grandma's garage, and he's looking to sell it. He told me it was worth 2500, but I'm skeptical. Thought I'd post here to offer it for sale, and maybe provide him with some market feedback.
Market feedback ? Is it a 2 barrel or 4 barrel engine ? Why was the engine pulled out 40 years ago ? Since it has been sitting in Grandma's garage, it must be stuck/seized up/froze up ? How many miles were on the engine ? Any spun rod bearings ? Any bent valves ? Any engine damage ? Is it for a manual transmission or automatic ?
The BEST situation would be a perfect condition, manual trans engine, with manifolds, tri-power triple 2 barrel carbs, from a w-30, with the air cleaner sitting on it. THAT is a ten thousand dollar engine.
The WORST situation is a cracked block, automatic, 4 barrel engine, without manifolds and carb, and with a rat's nest. That is a 500 dollar engine.
You probably have an old, slightly stuck, intact, automatic, 4 barrel engine, probably without the manifolds and the carb, and it's probably worth 1000-1300.
I appreciate the feed back. I'm on a work computer but will post pics when I get home. Thanks for all the questions!
Was from a 1966 442.
Is it a 2 barrel or 4 barrel engine? - 4-barrel
Why was the engine pulled out 40 years ago? - Just sent him a text, but I believe he mentioned before that he wanted to soop it up
Since it has been sitting in Grandma's garage, it must be stuck/seized up/froze up? - He said he could NOT turn it by hand.
How many miles were on the engine? He said 80k, which sounded high. I didn't know classic muscle cars lived past 50k.
Any spun rod bearings? - Not that he's aware of, but he never disassembled.
Any bent valves / Any engine damage? - Stated it was running fine when pulled.
Is it for a manual transmission or automatic - Manual
You need to put an asking price on ads as well. - I guess $2500 since that's what he thinks it's worth (honestly, I bet he'd take less).

I would venture to say its never been cracked with its lift hook, wiring harness clip on valve cover, exhaust manifold locks still in place. Also the heads are still on the correct sides wtih the ID on the front right. Good luck, hope it finds a home.
I've considered parting it out since it seems to be worth more in pieces, but that just seems wrong. Would love to sell it someone who needs this motor for a 66/67 442.
It's wrong heads for a 67. 67s had Cs, which are better. I'd buy a few goodies off you if you parted it, but I bought a spare engine/trans/rear end/driveshaft and a loose trans for my 67 442 already.
What is the number behind the water pump next to the oil filler tube?
this will tell the year of the block. Those B heads indicate it could be a 425 .

What makes the C head better than the B head?
He said the engine is from a 66 could that be why it has B heads?

If you are not in a rush to sell you just have to find the right buyer.
The engine is rare if it is from a 66 442 stick and to have all the correct parts is also very hard to find.
You should take all the numbers and post them. From the distributor, carburetor, water pump ,intake manifold, front of the engine just in front of the water neck on the block, oil filler tube numbers.
The more info and numbers correct the more value.
Good luck with the sale

Red heads bronze block: it had a valve job or for some reason '66 425 B heads were swapped on it. It had a valve job and rebuilder sprayed it with what he had on hand...I have a 68 455 in my garage just like that.
The 390925E on the block is 4-4-2. The V on the head is 4-4-2 4 barrel (T suffix would be for Tri-Carbs). Red paint indicates the heads were removed and painted at one time.

True. Years ago I had a three-angle done on the transplanted 455 in my '68 4-4-2. When I got it back, the heads were Ford Corporate Blue. The builder told me, "I thought I'd dress it up a little for you."
