1964 through 1967 Consol tachometer

just found this stashed in with a couple Pontiac Hood tachometers and miscellaneous NOSGM stuffSuper nice facia needle and graphics very nice case with just a couple of small tiny almost unseen pimples from 2 feet awayThis is untested the needle moves freely and easily when twisted I do not have a car right now with the points ignition to test it but I’m sure it works as I’ve had it for over 30 years it has been a part at one time because the lower apron on the face is missing and it shows the bottom part of the needle that should be hidden getting hard to find unbleached Faces and Nice cases$250 $20 shipping
thank you
Scott

That’s for 64-65 only, 66 and 67 had their own style tachometer not console mounted.

The 64 and 65 console had a tachometer. 66 and 67 had vacuum gages on on the console but the 66 had the U-16 option sidewinder tach mounted on the dash near the drivers vent window. The 67 had the Y-79 Tack-Clock combo in the dash. The Y-79 was launched during late 66. I have a 66 Cutlass vert with the side winder tach and the vacuum gage on the 4-speed console.

Hope that helps. I may have missed some details but basically that is what happened. It's a common discusion at cruise ins about the tachs and vacuum gages. I am sure others may chime in with more information.

The vacuum gauge was 1966 only. The 1967-69 cars had nothing on the console.

Could this be correct for a full size with a 4spd?

That is an interesting question. According to the SPECS booklets, the only full size cars offered with a console in the 1964-66 timeframe were the Starfire, Jetstar I, and the 1964 Ninety Eight Custom Sports Coupe. The latter wasn't offered with MT. The AT consoles used a different tach housing. The SPECS booklets for 1965-66 both say that the AT cars got a tachometer but the MT cars got a "performance gauge", which is also what Olds called the vacuum gauge on the 1966 A-body console. Pictures of restored 1965-66 MT cars you see on line have the A-body tach and console. I have no idea if those are original or not.

According to the parts book, the 1964 Jetstar 88 with MT used the same tach as the F85s (which would be this one) but I can't find anything that shows bucket seats offered in the J88. The parts book also shows this same tach used on the 1965 Starfire with MT only, even though the SPECS book says those cars got a performance (vacuum) gauge. This same parts book also shows that the 1965-66 Jetstar I got the performance (vacuum) gauge with MT trans, but that gauge is a different P/N than the one used on the A-body consoles in 1966.

Unfortunately these cars are so rare with MT that it's difficult to find one that is unmolested.
