Hi all
I've seen several people put new cores in 1960's-70's radiators but not seen that done with older models. There may be no demand, but before it goes in the scrap metal pile I thought I'd offer this here. The background story, a local guy needed a radiator for a 1950 Olds. I had this one that looked similar to one I pulled from a 1955 so I offered it to him. We stuck a garden hose into it, filled it and watched it drain. It seemed to flow out well. Then on his next visit we carefully laid it down, blocked the radiator hose openings and put water into it so we could look for leaks. This didn't put pressure on it but seemed like a basic check. I sold him the radiator with the agreement that if it didn't work for him, I'd refund his money. To make it fit in his car he had to cut the side brackets down. He installed it and then found what looked like a rat's nest inside the top tank, chunks of cotton started floating around. He took it to a local shop, and they said it had multiple leaks in the core and in their opinion was junk. I gave him a second radiator which the shop was able to test and worked out. So now I have this one back, side brackets cut off and we know it has a leaky core. Would anybody be interested if I cut the tanks off, say $20 plus shipping from Oregon? I'm thinking just the tanks wouldn't be too expensive to ship. If anybody can use parts of it, I'm willing to take some time before sending it to the crusher. John
