Comments on this PAINT COMBINATION

I am looking at buying a 1970 442 with a paint code of 10 75. This would mean red on top and white all over the rest of the car correct???

I havent seen a picture on google of anything remotely close to this....

That would seem to be the case. To be sure a clear pic of the cowl tag would be great to reassure.

The car has trim on it like it had a vinyl top, but this would be indicated by a letter in the paint code...wouldn't it? This series would mean it was painted, correct???

The entire second line reads: TR 937 B80 10 75 PNT

Correct the 75 represents Matador Red painted top

'65 - '68 would be a number for vinyl/convertible top color
'69 - '72 would be a letter for vinyl/convertible top color

Yes, originally, my 70 F-85 was like that but it was light green lower with a dark green painted top. I have seen a few other cars like this, Olds and Chevys.

I think the white with red top would be very unique. What is the interior color on the 442 you are looking at, figuring red or white?

Two tone cars used the same trim as vinyl top cars between the two paint colors.

Think that's backwards. 65-68 were letter-letter, like V-V for instance.
10-75 would fit the number scheme of the later years.

V V would be correct for a '65 - '68 car with the painted roof

But V 1 could be a '65 - '68 car with white vinyl top or convertible top for example as stated above ^^^ vinyl/convertible top color code

Wow. Real "granny car" colors.

I think it's kinda cool. Very authentic. You don't see those combos around anymore.

There might be a reason for that.

Nice photo-shopping, only it looks like velvet top. I'm trying to find the thread that has the picture, but it's a 70 CS vert with white body and red W30 striping. (not pace car red/black striping) Sort of another unusual color combo.

There was a 442 in this exact same color combination for sale in Colorado a year or so ago. From the pictures posted at the time I thought it was very cool! Although not a fan of white cars usually I would have kept it just the way it was because it was so unique.

Maybe buy a Red Roof Inn and use it as your company car. But seriously, it's nice to see some different cars and colors occasionally.

Anyway, I have seen this car on eBay a month ago - at least I believe it's the same car. I asked the seller for the data plate and indeed it showed it to be two-tone. Seller didn't have a clue.

White/red is one of my favorite combos. Red/white is totally uninteresting in comparison. Unfortunately, the car I saw suffered some mods that brought it down to Perfumed Pig status, but all that stuff can be corrected. I hope whomever buys it maintains the integrity of the data plate.

Here's a pic of a similar GTO.

My dad had a blue 70 Cutlass S with white painted top. Looked funky. Painted tops usually fared better down the road as far as rust issues around the A-pillars and back glass vs. vinyl tops, though.

Funny how in 73 I didn't like that body style. Now I really do.
