Cleaning/Coating/Painting Parking Brake ASM

Curious what be the best method to clean the Parking Brake Assembly. Mine is really ratty, and don't see what good blasting would do. Some kind of acid dip?

As for painting/coating... seems e-plating (ie. zinc phosphate, black zinc) would be best b/c of the hard spots? Then perhaps paint the pedal black as original.

Also seems like the brake release handle might have been zinc phosphated originally, but not sure how it even comes off with the long spring there.

Oldzy, there is a recent thread today about soaking in vinager..I've never tried it. Nor have i had any parts refinished..er coated.

The stuff Eastwood sells has good feed back. I'll be trying it on some unrealted parts soon.
