Would like opinions on De Beer paints vs. PPG. Have heard negative about De Beer and very positive on PPG. Also, Global clear coat? Your opinions are welcome in this decision on which to use.

Never heard of De Beer.
Recon there is beer in it? Sounds southern to me...

PPG has been around - quite popular.

 

I used De Beer on my old Dodge, very easy to use and good information included, I think it was the 2000 series I used so no clear coat though.

It's only been two years so I have no idea how it will stick in the long run but so far it look's nice.

 

Guess I'll find out as well. Has been used in Europe for years. A guy in Germany wrote last month and said it's what they use. PPG has been around but their quality is going down from what several painters have said. And over priced. Very professional shop where my car is at and they like it very much. Americans are always leary of change. Thanks for the reply!

 

We use the 500 line De Beer basecoat/clearcoat at our restoration shop daily. We are formerly a Sikkens shop. We LOVE the De Beer system. We have a mixing bank and we make all of our colors in-house. The costs for products are very comparible to the other top paint manufacturers in the US. We have completed hundreds and hundreds of projects using De Beer products over the past few years. Thanks for the compliments! You shoud know that the last car shown (the two tone grey/silver convertible is a Canadian car. It is a Pontiac Parisienne. Chassis, drivetrain and floors from a US model '65 Chevy Impala skinned in Pontiac sheetmetal. Pretty cool 'eh?

 

I remember back in the day; those cars were really big sellers up here. Even the wagons sold well. Don't know what the market is for them now - not much into Pontiacs but if I bought one and needed it redone, I know who'd be doing it now! Would I get my choice of bikini clad model for the unveiling??

I was sceptical on da beer paint been using it for a couple of years was always a Dupont man just finished painting mine yeasterday in Da beer base it it great paint

I'm pro USA and Can products. I have used Dupont, RM, PPG, and House of colors paint. But I have to say the Euro paints are in a different league. I found the clears are very clear and the colors are richer and deeper.

 

What shade of grey is this? (PLEASE don't say '50')

 

My 72 and a few of my others are done with PPG.One of my Mustangs were done with Dupont.I did some striping with some House Of Colors paints as well.The PPG products are good,and there is a main hub about a mile from my house,so that makes it convenient.The painter of my Mustang uses Dupont,and I was very pleased with that as well.

Did I mention that the prep is important?A paint job is only as good as what is underneath it.

 

In the body shop the saying was a good paint job is 99% prep and 1% is the painter. The art in painting comes in when blending repairs, tri colors and any thing custom.
The painter and prep man new who's work was good in the shop as one of my teachers would say the paint don't lie. Under the booth lites as the paint is being sprayed you see all defects in the substrate/surface.

This is so true! Put a million dollar paint job over five dollar bodywork and prep and you get what looks to be a 5 dollar paint job.
