69 442 paint color Sable

My 69 442 trim tag calls out Sable as the paint color. The paint is faded and is difficult to tell the color. I am going to get a small amount so that I can spray a panel and see what it looks like.

However, if anyone has a car painted this color, I would appreciate some pictures. I like colors that are distinct to the period, but sable (brown) is a little hard to visualize.

Thanks in advance

My '69 (now white) was Sable originally, too. Will return to that color when it gets repainted. It is a *very* dark brown and yes, it is indeed hard to visualize. There is also Autumn Gold which is definitely on the dark dark side and easy to mix up with Sable, especially in pics. I *think* the first car posted is Sable and the second one is Autumn Gold.

Thanks for the pictures. The color looks pretty good. I would go with a parchment top and I think the wheelwell chrome moldings would help set it off.

My first car was a '69 442 and it was sable with a white vinyl top. It had the W42 stripes on the hood. I've posted some pictures which were taken when a bunch of us friends decided to take a day to detail our cars while we listened to the '72 World Series. These are the only pictures I have and they aren't very clear, but I thought I would offer them for your look-see anyway.

Here is (what I believe to be) my sable 69 supreme. Never thought to check the paint code but I know the color is original - it was repainted 1 time and does have the slight "sparkling" or metalflake effect...I really like it.

Great thread! Here is a pic of my sable brown Cutlass...really interesting color. Sometimes it looks dark green, sometimes black and others dark brown.
