What color should I paint this Cutlass?
#2
Color preference is a very personal thing. Me and a million other people have always liked red. I remember somebody on here used to have a Cutlass like this done in solid beige with some very nice wheels on it. I always thought it looked nice and clean. Look at other cars on here and see what you think. Are you changing the interior or is it one that will work with most colors.

No all I'm doing the interior is reupholstering the seats. I'm trying to keep it all original but cloneing is ok. I was thinking like the hurst syle. Maybe white and gold stripes or red/orange and black since the interior is black and rims. Do you think the car looks a little rough?

Cloning is a lot more than a paint job. If it were mine, I would just pick a nice solid color I like and them maybe have some pinstripes added. From what I see and what you described in another thread, the car seems to be pretty solid.

Yes it is. What do you think about stripping to bare metal then reprinting over..?

Minimizes complications when you start painting.
Once your down to clean bare metal,
seal the whole car with an epoxy primer.
Will any body work be required?
If so, some people like to do the body work first then seal with epoxy.
Others recommend sealing first, then applying filler
on top of the epoxy for better adhesion,
then spraying epoxy over the body work, basically "sandwiching" the filler
between two layers of epoxy.
I've tried both ways and had no problems either way, but,
the epoxy DOES seem to help with the filler adhering better
plus the sandwiching helps seal the body filler to keep it from absorbing moisture
in case you don't do the final painting right away.
I think most epoxy primer/sealers require final paint be applied within 24 hours.

Wrong body style for Hurst in 72. If you're trying to keep it original look at the paint code on the cowl tag. Other than that I don't know why you wouldn't just search the web for pics of this car in different colors and make your decision that way.
