Thinking Outside the Box on Color

1972 Cutlass Convertible currently viking blue. Major body work necesitates repaint. Thinking of going to a darker blue. Car will never be numbers matching original so I'm not really worried about "painting within the lines". Anyone want to throw out some cool suggestions? White top and white interior. Original wheels, match the new color or something extreme? Have not seen too many dark blue convertibles. Color names and or links to photos would be helpful. Thanks

If you can get to an automotive paint store, look at the late 60's Cadillac Firemist colors!!
Some will just knock you out, but I don't know what they'll look like in todays BC/CC!

I too decided not to use factory colors when i painted my car. After looking at several swatches, I decided on 1997 Mitsubishi blue.

Close to Finished

Went with lexus blue. Saw it on a cobra and liked it. For the diehard purist it may be like nails on a chalk board.

Drove it out last night and found a card on the seat. " Luxury Rides...Exotic Luxury Rentals...Please Contact us.... We want to Rent your Car..." Kind of like getting "hit on" felt pretty good.

That color looks good. Did you paint a white stripe down the middle of the hood?

Stripe

Stripe was painted. Considered the two stripe look but with the hood grills thought it would mask them. Paint has some different hues that when the light changes it looks different. I Like the paint best at dusk rather than in full sun. Overall happy with my choices. Not many that will look like it. I apologize to the purists.

Now I have my eye on a triple black 68 or 69 barn car. Automatic unfortunately. Or further defile my car by putting a 4 speed in it.

My CTS paint is three stage red which I believe is clear over color over silver. The light really dances off it, especially at dusk. I really think it would look nice on an Olds, especially an S / 442 hard top.

Aye didn't back in the day they use "crushed glass" as an additive in clear coats to make the car sparkle in the light? would need a pretty big tip 2.0 maybe with no screen... to shoot it.

here's a shot of one of my old rides

paint was for 85 IROC Camaro

Pic really doesn't do it total justice - was deep / dark color but would
brighten up under direct sun .

this was base coat / clear coat urethane
