Prepping bumper fillers for paint '77 Supreme
Prepping bumper fillers for paint '77 Supreme
Hi All,
Did some searching initially, but didn't come across a definitive answer. I'm replacing the front bumper on my '77 Cutlass Supreme, and this includes the bumper fillers. I acquired decent condition bumper fillers to use with the replacement bumper, but need to match the color of these fillers to the paint on the rest of the car. What is the best recommended way to prep these malleable fillers for paint? Simply a scuff and shoot?
One of the fillers in question, I acquired a red and yellow filler, while my Cutlass is blue:

I should note that my Cutlass is by no means a show car or anything close. I'm just hoping to be able to roughly match these fillers to the rest of the car, and not run into issues with paint adhesion. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

been there
1. Clean with dawn soap and water.
2. Scuff and clean by SEM, also heard on can use Comet cleanser and scotchbright. I like brown as it is finer.. make sure it is dry..
3. Use an adhesion promoter like Bulldog.
4. Epoxy prime, assumes your don't need to fix anything see SEM products and 3M for plastic fix it stuff.. filler etc..etc
5. Topcoat right after epoxy primer minimum flash off time and make sure you add a flex additive in the paint regardless of type, even if they say you don't need one......how do I know??
