Painting tail light bezels w/ caliper paint

I plan to repaint the tail light bezels on my 72 Cutlass because the old paint is rubbing off. Someone whose opinion I trust recommended using silver caliper paint. My plan is to remove the bezels, rather than taping off, to avoid any chance of overspray. I'm wondering if there is any other prep work I should do, and if there are any other precautions I should take. Has anyone here used caliper paint on parts other than brakes before? What was the result? Thanks for your help. I'm new to the forums, and this is the first project I'm taking on by myself with my new car.

Use Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403. Just clean them with soap and water, and you may want to lightly scuff with a fine sandpaper, I masked off the lens before spraying, turned out nice. Yours will be harder than mine, as your lens are segmented, and my '71's are not.

I used fine steel wool with soap and water, after I masked and painted them, I gave them a light shot of clearcoat. I painted in the black and the silver for the 442 theme on my 67. I used a dampened rag with acetone to remove the paint from the raised letters on the trunk trim.

It's been 2 years, and it still looks good!
