70 Inner Headlight Buckets

Are the inner headlight buckets that get bolted to the fenders, body colour or the same aluminum colour as the grilles? The ones i have were painted aluminum, but they had been taken out and messed with by someone else, so i am just trying to make sure of the proper colour.

Is this the sheetmetal piece that bolts next to the headlights, behind the front fender eyebrow trim? I've got a box of these in the garage and I'm not sure, but I think I've seen both body color and silver.

Anybody else know for sure?

If you are referring to the filler panel on each side (it surrounds the outer headlights on the top and side) then it should be the same color (alum/silver/whatever you want to call it) as the grilles and headlight housings. THIS WOULD BE FOR 1970....later cars were body color I believe.

These "filler panels' are attached to the front of the fenders and they could be described as "L" shaped.

This topic was discussed with "my" bodyshop/paint guru last month as I have 2 cars - one with body paint (gold) and the other with gray or silver (color of the headlight housing). This guy has been restoring Olds cars for 25 years and said they should be the color of the housing.

Krylon dull aluminum is a very close match (correct).

Is Krylon dull aluminum still available? I used that maybe ten years ago on my grills and taillamp lenses and was pleased with the match (71 442). Wanted to repaint them last month but couldn't find that color anywhere.

Thanks for the link Rocket Vapor. Still listed -#1403. I'll double check my local vendors, if N/G I'll have to order. Probably wait for spring at this point. Getting too cold to paint! Thanks again.

I'm lucky, my work orders Rust-Oleum, and they have a dull Aluminum that i test sprayed onto one of my grilles, and it's almost a perfect match.
