Rear end issues!

Hello Olds lovers, I'm new to the site and this is my first post...I mean cry for help! I have a rotation "rubbing" or "swooshing sound coming from the rear end of this 67 Cutlass I just bought. The noise isn't very loud but it is noticable. It is the original rear end and I'm looking for advice on how to approach or troubleshoot the noise. I know that the pinion seal is shot but not convinced that that would result in this noise I hear. Biggest question is should I start to rebuild the rear end or could it be a more simple solution? Any suggestions are very well received.

Welcome to the site. So, its not a wirrring sound?

You might know this could be a number of things.
Tire rub on parking brake cable? or exhaust pipe?
Brake shoes rubbing on out of round drums now and then?

First chance you get make sure the pinion nut is good and tight. When possible drop the cover and have a look around at things. The fluid condition can tell you a lot.

Oh, and get back to us if you have any findings.
