ok, not sure if this is the right place to post this question....but i have an all original '69 442 and was told that the engine needs the lead for lubrication. i bought this "lead subsitute" stuff to add to each tank of gas. does anyone have any suggestions on whether or not the "lead substitue" will suffice? can you even get real lead additive? any recommendations? thanks in advance

Yes, one may get "real" lead additive. However, putting it in your tank may not be, shall we say, legal? It is called Octane Supreme, I believe. Google it.

There has been a lot of discussion on this subject.

The consensus seems to be that even though your valve seats aren't hardened, nobody's actually seen valve seat recession in those heads under anything approaching normal use.

Some use lead substitutes "just to be sure," but few would try to convince you that anything will go wrong if you don't.

I'd vote to spend your hard-earned money elsewhere, unless you race regularly (in which case you've probably already installed modified heads with hardened seats) or put on more than 15,000 miles a year.

Yes it is. Having said that, I also agree with Eric's statements. It is only a safety factor. I cannot prove it is helping. If nothing else, what it does do is give me peace of mind.
