My 72 Cutlass

I have a 72 Cutlass it runs very smooth but here is the problem........I replaced the tank..........it has 4 lines..........I (think) I replaced the lines on the tank correctly but im not getting any gas but if I place a jug of gas and run it from the fuel pump she starts right up. What could be my problem? is it a major problem or a simple problem?

it might be the rubber sections of the fuel lines if they are old they might colapse and starve the fuel

I put new hoses on all for lines and plugged 1 of them off but is there any other way possible that the 1 line maybe 2 could be placed differently?

Moving things around might have broken off some crud and caused a blockage. Also remember it can take a long time to get gas from tank to engine. You might not have tried long enough.

Ok well the new gas tank I put on was a few months ago maybe was electric but could it still be a problem........and it look simple to install along with the lines but could there be a chance that the lines are not on there correctly even though its simple to look at so if ur at the back of the car facing forward its 2 lines on the right side..........1 in the middle where the float goes and another 1 n the left.......does that sound about right or no?

There is gas in the tank?

You're positive you don't have the feed line and the return line reversed?
If it has a return line there will be two lines into the fuel pump.
There should be three lines with the canister vent/emission line to the front of the car.
The fuel and return lines go to the tank sending unit, emission line goes to the left/driver's side of the vent standpipe. Then from left to right on the standpipe, the vent pipe hose from the left corner of the tank, hose to the center tank vent, right hand corner vent hose from the tank.

I've done this a couple times over the years after replacing mechanical fuel pumps. Talk about frustrating to think "oh great, the fuel pump wasn't the problem" until I figured out what I did wrong. I would certainly verify the line connections at the fuel pump.
