68/69 Cutlass Speedo Faceplate/needle RnR
Can anyone tell me how to remove the needle on a 68/69 Cutlass/442 speedometer. I want to switch the face plates so my dash looks like an original console/floor shift. I have been warned not to pry on the needle because the internals are easy to break. Thanks

Send your gauge to John at Redline Clock and Gauge Repair. He will swap out your speedometer face for a floor shift gauge face. He does great work for cheap, and has a fast turn around.

I believe you can pull off the needle, but pressing it back on might be what would get you in trouble.

I gave John a call. He seems like a teriffic guy. I told me to carefully take the needle, turn it counter clockwise below 0 mph. With a little pressure keep spining it backwards and pop, off it came. I changed the plate and turn signal light tubes. To put the needle back on he recommended to point the needle at 12 o'clock and press down and clockwise until it hit zero. Everything went well. Just as he said. Thanks. He never once mentioned to send it to him because it is to easy and quick. If you need any clock, speedometer or other guage work I would definitely give he a call.

He really is a great guy. I had him restore the whole gauge cluster in my '70 Chevelle SS and the tic-toc-tach in my '70 442. Both times he had a very fast turn around (about five days) and was very reasonable with his charges.

IIRC, around $200.00 for the tic-toc-tac and about $500.00 for my '70 Chevelle SS complete gauge cluster.
Call John and talk with him. He is a great guy and will take the time to very clearly explain all steps in great detail.

I bought a whole used speedo from a user here. Put a parts wanted ad out and I am sure someone can find you one.
I think the faces are being reproduced. I checked... OPGI has them p/n C240555 or look at the link here...

I got the speedo cheaper than this and free pick up. If you look around I am sure you can find the repos elsewheres too.
