1972 442-Pictures or layout for mounting holes for front bumper guards?
Does anyone have photos or layout diagrams for the holes to mount front bumper guards on a re-chromed bumper I have but is not drilled out for the guards. It’s a 1972 Cutlass 442. My brother replaced the bumper when he owned it in Texas! Any info appreciated!
Here's an old thread discussing it. The front were in different locations, the ones on my wagon are spaced so far apart the middle of the bumper may hit before the bumper guards do. I've got a loose rear bumper with the guards on it. If the link doesn't provide what you need I could get photos or measurements but it might be a while before I could get to it. Life's been busy lately and I'm not sure when it will slow down. John

The rear original bumper has the original bumper with the guards installed. The front bumper was replaced and evidentially my brother didn't care or notice it didn't have the holes for the guards. He did save the bumper guards in the trunk and I want them back on since it was ordered with them. From the link you included, I read that the info may be in the 1972 Assembly Manual so I will dig mine out and look through it again. I never noticed it in there before but then I was looking more fore stripe placement and not thinking about the bumper guards. Make me nervous drilling into a perfectly good part...LOL! Being a '72, the guards should be in closer to the center of the bumper.....on each side of the license plate!
I looked in my 1972 Assembly Manual and I do not see any layout or measurements for where to drill the holes for the front bumper guards. I hope someone has a copy of the sheet that comes with NOS front bumper guards so I can get a copy.
Not sure if this helps ,but i measured mine at 15 3/8 inside the the tops of the bumper guards so if you can find dead center of the bumper 7 11/16 out from center on each side .interestingly the guards line up with the 3rd grid in the grill and notice the bottom is inline with the edge of the cutout.I realize this isn't very technical but i noticed you'd been looking for a while and thought it might help
Thank you for the details and photos! I really appreciate it! The pictures and dimensions will help.
I see you live in Saratoga Springs, NY!! I believe that was home to Solomon Northup before he was lured to Washington, DC to be kidnapped! I read the book back in the 80's and then again in the 2000's. I have a copy of the first edition from the 1850's that I hope to have restored some day! An interesting story that the movie didn't do justice.
