1966 Starfire Quarters??

I have two 1966 Starfires, one is my dad's he cruised back in highschool, the other I bought cause... Why not?? I am in dire need of new quarters on my dad's before I can carry on with my bigger plans for the two of them. And while I am on it what disc breaks kit would fit on this car? I going to switch it to standard GM bolt when I switch it over, I will keep everyone posted of my progress. If any one could help me out that would be awesome.

Thank you verry much!
Nick

Cool cars, but what do you consider "standard GM bolt" - I assume pattern? If you're talking about the wheel bolt pattern, the 5 x 5" IS a standard GM pattern, just not the one Chevy used until 1971. The heavier weight of the cars is WHY Olds used the larger pattern.

Yeah I ment pattern. And yeah my mistake I knew it was a standard for the bigger car. I ment the small chevy pattern. Yeah I still have a tons to learn, especially with the oldsmobiles.
Thanks for the reply.

Welcome to the site Nick! I think it would be a lot of work to convert to the smaller bolt pattern. Is that so you can use a specific style of wheel on the car? Scarebird advertizes aftermarket disc brakes on ebay all the time, I don't know if they have your application but you could contact them to see. Please post pictures of your Oldsmobiles when you have time! John

Starfire quarters are the same as 88 coupes below the crown, so if you have the metal finishing skills to graft it on at that point you can use them.

I can't see why anyone would want to put small bolt pattern hubs/wheels on a car as heavy as an Olds. Decent looking 5x5 bp wheels are not that hard to find.

www.scarebird.com might have what you need to convert to discs.

I'm curious why you feel the need to go to a smaller bolt pattern. If it's for wheel selection, there are lots of wheels available in the 5x5" bolt pattern, since this is used on full size GM and Ford cars and a lot of half-ton trucks.

How come it seems like I drove a rice grinder in to a car show?
And it's not like gonna throw a chevy motor in it, I am keeping it Olds. The reason I switching it to a smaller bolt pattern is because I spent over 2000 on a set of rims. The the place where I got the rims did not have 5 on 5. An it's not I need to I would like to for the rims to fit.

Nobody's trying to dump on you, but this is ALWAYS the reason why someone asks about changing bolt pattern and it's always a bad idea. Olds used a bigger bolt pattern on the big cars for a reason - to handle the heavier weight.

66 Starfire quarters

I have a very good rear clip for a 66 Starfire if you still need the quarters.

I just found out in another thread last night that there's 4 parts 66 starfires on Ebay out in Missouri. You have to go into the "motors" section, then into "parts & accessories" then into "parts cars" It took me a little while to find them, but they are there, complete and have decent 1/4 panels along with a ton of other parts if you're looking for anything else.

If you have trouble finding them, let me know, and I'll help out as I can.

This car's been sitting for sale online long enough the owner may be willing to part it out, or drop the price for the whole thing. It's been relisted for about 3 months straight now. I think it started at about $14-1500 IIRC. He's recently started listing it in multiple cities as well.

I have no idea if the trim is in decent shape or not. It's more of a project than I want to tackle, so I never contacted the owner about his car.

I also remember seeing a guy out in Missouri on Ebay that had 4 complete cars for sale he was going to part if they didn't sell complete. Like a dumba$$, I forgot to put them in my watch list...

Funny you should post that particular 66. I went to go look at it last Saturday. It is rough and the trim isn't all that great. This guy has an HUGE collection of projects & collection of wild rides though.

Besides that 66, there was another '66 Starfire, 2 '65 Starfire, '65 D88 4dr hard top, '65 Jetstar 4dr, '65 Dynamic 2dr factory 4 speed... and that was just what I spotted.

Vista Cruisers, 88's from the 1980's, pre-'65 Starfires & 88's ... Toros, Cadillacs, Desotos, Pontiacs, Buicks all from 40's to 80's... well over 50 cars! Very nice collection. I don't think he'll get rid of that 66 Starfire for what I am willing to offer. It was a fun visit though.

Interesting... I wondered how that car looked up close. Now I don't have to make the drive myself! Any chance he's selling any of the other 65/66's or is it just his own private collection. Were the others all in better (driveable?) shape?

Ive seen that posted on craigslist for at least 2 years. I was thinking it must be in BAD shape to still be listed so long. Did you happen to see a 65 Cutlass up there. I need some parts.

The only other Oldsmobiles he said he was interested in selling was the Jetstar 4dr which was missing the whole front clip and a rough 63 dynamic 88.

No 65 cutlass that I saw.

I may go back and offer him $400 for the '66 Starfire in a few weeks. I doubt he'll go that low. It doesn't look as if he's NEEDS to get rid of anything. He's got plenty-o-room
