Just brought her home. 350/350, with a 455/400 sitting in the wings. Nice interior, car comes with a ton of parts, such a new B&M shifter, new flowmaster 44's,(2), gas tank, sending unit, new drag springs for the front, new 4 row aluminum, radiator, x-pipe, mini-starter, power steering pump, chrome, new serpentine belt system, and the list goes on. There's some tweaking to be done for sure, like a new vinyl top, some body work, but all in all, it's a great car for the price. All this plus $20 bucks to deliver, a 60 mile round-trip!! (thanks John!)... $3700 bucks....

Those seats are sweet and cloth holds your bottom better than vinyl in 1 g turns.

I'm going to part out some of the stuff I don't need/want. The pulleys are the first to go so I can finance the cars fix-up. I have the pulleys for sale in a couple of places, including here. Check out the for sale section. If you go to Dick Miller racing, you'll see the set there selling for $545 bucks. I want a lot less than that, and willing to negotiate on my asking price. I've done some work to the car, including fixing the intake front seal, pulling off the headers, getting a new + cable for the starter, and a new battery tray.The driver side motor mount was missing the large metal spacer so I made one up and corrected that. I still have to put the carb and associated items back on the intake, and will probably address the cooling system in the next few weeks. I'm 100% disabled so it takes a little while for me to get things done. When it comes time to mount the new floor shifter, my son will help pull the seat and carpeting out. I have to locate some cross member bolts, and to put the new gas tank in. My wife keeps yelling at me because this is supposed to be a winter project, but I want to get some of the cold stuff done first.

Nice, I keep thinking I will get time to try my 455 in my 78. Mine should be a little easier because has the steering box in front of the crossmember. But it was a 3.8 V/6 originally so I will have to change sides with the battery and gas lines. Keep us posted and keep the pics coming as you put the 455 in. Maybe it will motivate me to do my swap.

72 cutlass455 do you know how much these Omega's weigh? Read on another site (ROP) that they are with in a couple of 100 pounds of your 72. Anyone that can answer would be great.

they weigh somewhere around 3355. or atleast thats what mine is.

 

Got some work done on the Omega. Replaced the intake manifold gasket as the front seal was shot, got a new + battery cable, new battery tray, new gaskets for the headers installed, wired up the carb's choke, straightened out the mess that was called plug wires , new belt for the alternator, figured out the power steering bracketry, new belt there,got the interior lights all working,and installed the B&M ratchet shifter, which I hate, but was free with the purchase of the car.Pulled the old carpet out, along with the backing, and found a little rust, with a small pin-hole, in the driver's floor area. I still have to install the drive-shaft, new gas tank, aluminum radiator, hoses, and a trans cooler.. Being 100% disabled, it takes me quite a while to do simple things. If I was feeling better, with a lift, I probably could tie everything up in a good weekend. Sorry for the lousy pix.

 

Dokks 74 what rear does your car have? I read that the cars that came with V/8's also came with a 8.5 10 bolt. My car came with a V/6 so I am looking to find what cars came with the 8.5 that are a direct bolt in in a Omega.

 

I have multi-leafs in the back, and being the Omega "S" model, I thinks it's a 8.5 10 bolt. Nova, Venturas, and Appolo's should all interchange.

 

Dokks 74 thanks for the reply, my 78 also has the multileaf springs. I have been posting on all the craigslist towns within 100 miles of me, just this morning someone posted a 3:42 for sale. I think I will get it but I really need 3:73 for my street strip motor.

Got some more work done on car.. New gas tank and sending unit is in, fuel lines done, drive shaft with new u-joints in. Started mocking up the new aluminum rad with dual fans, got the lower and upper radiator hoses. Still have to put on the 40 series flowmasters, and hook up a e-brake. I also have lakewood traction bars to put on, and still need the trans cooler. Oh well....

 

Be careful with the new fuel tank.I ran out of gas on the Pa turnpike.wasn't even close to empty.Nova stuff.

From what i can gleem from the web 72 cutlass 3500 to 3800 lbs 74 omega 3000 to 3500 lbs. Like the guys say all depends on the options and the build. Cloth seats are better at holding your buns in place in corners un less you like rubber pants. I have all plastic in mine and on the winding roads the seat belts were all that held me in place. Yep, busy as heck. In fact, I have 3-4 pages of stuff on my watch list, but it's mostly make-up, lol. I guess the wife has been busy too!!! Thanks for the offer of sharing info., it's much appreciated.

 

Found the 8.5 10 bolt here in shreveport at Aero drive upullit. 79 plus old core. I don't know if it is a posi or not but for that price couldn't go wrong. Rear came from 74 Rally Nova. Hope you get started installing 455 maybe we can give each other tips as we go.

 

Got the exhaust system worked out. Next the lakewood slapper bars, and I can get the car down on all fours to work on the cooling system/ trans cooler.

That is one of those Oldsmobiles that are not that saught after, which by me makes the kind of Olds I like! Good luck with your project, start with a notebook and write all your idea's down & figure out what make's sense to do first. That's the way I do it anyway.

 

New radiator is in, new dual fans with wiring done, new hoses, belts, and tranny cooler is in. All that's left is to get a new battery for her, crank it a few dozen times or so to get some oil pressure in her, and then fire it up. The motor hasn't been run in about 5 years so I'm going to crank it good to get oil flowing, and then introduce some gas into the new, empty tank.

 

Topped off all the fluids, and after about 15 seconds of cranking, got approx 50lbs of oil pressure at cranking rpm's. I think I'm going to fire her up VERY soon..

 

Fired her up today, but have a miss somewhere. New plugs and wires coming soon!

Bought new plugs and wires today, installed them, and now no spark. I guess I'll just do a tune-up, points, condenser, rotor, cap and new coil and be done with it.
