Exhaust for my 64 Starfire
Exhaust for my 64 Starfire
I am wanting a very deep muscle car tone from my 394. I think I'm going with the Flowmaster series 40. Am I able to use a dual in/ dual out muffler or will I have to use to separate mufflers? Cost is an issue.
Of course my car will retain it's current exhaust manifolds!

Why would you want to compromise the dual exhaust with a crossover muffler? The extra pipe bending would negate any cost savings, and it can't go behind the rear axle because of the fuel tank. Go ahead and spend the extra for the second muffler, and make sure you do aluminized pipe so it'll last a while.
To make a 64 Starfire sound like one, http://sweet-thunder.com/chambered_u..._starfire.html .
You'd need a pair of resonators at the rear to tone down the bark some, and doubtful many muffler shops could get the right ones. Duplicating the factory chambered system was not cheap and took me several years to find both front resonators.
I've had Flows on several cars over the years, and more and more I don't like them. They're coming off the Pace Car soon as it's roadworthy again, but I'm really not sure what I'll put on it.

Just under my 63 looking around and I don't know where you would be able to run dual pipes to one side of the car to enter a dual in muffler and then where you would run the pipe back to the other side of the car again after it comes out of the dual out....the driveshaft, rear end and gas tank are all very much in the way of crossing pipe work back and forth. Easiest way is to run the pipes straight back on either side of the driveshaft and use 2 mufflers... in the long run as already mentioned the muffler is much cheaper then all the pipe bending that would be required.
