66 Starfire options list / pricing

Looking for any information on options available on a 66 Starfire and their cost. Also is there any info that can be gleaned from the VIN such as where purchased, purchase date, etc, and how can it be retrieved. I know I'm the second owner and was told the car was purchased new in Texas. Any help would be appreciated. My car is provincial white, red interior, T400, A/C, P/B, P/B.

Tracing ownership info from the VIN on a car that old is nearly impossible. Keep in mind that those records were on paper documents. Few organizations have found any benefit in digitizing the information. Most half-century-old records have just been thrown away.

As for options and pricing, here's the 1966 SPECs booklet page.

At one time there was a company that gleaned that information from the various DMV records of that era and sold it on a disc. When DmVs began prohibiting the collection of this data the company still sold the discs for a time thereafter. It has been maybe 20 years since I have seen an advertisement for the discs.

Thanks for the replies and help. The 66 Specs page is what I was looking for. Didn't hold much hope for gathering the other info. Unfortunately when I retitled the car in Indiana I wasn't savvy enough to retain the original Title. Would appreciate any other information that you think might be helpful in the ownership of this car. Joe, you have an unbelievable knowledge of Oldsmobiles, enjoy following your posts.

Indiana may allow you to purchase a copy of the title that you turned in. The Texas DMV may allow a search based on the VIN. The policy varies by state. A law enforcement officer my have access to a database that goes back quite a number of years.
