what is this?

i saw one on a cutlass on ebay and it had a vacuum line going to it but i couldnt see where the line was going to, can someone shed some light on it?

That is the vacume resevour for such things as heater controls

so if i take it off i might aswell take off my heater core too?

Cars with A/C have vacuum-operated flapper valves in the heater box. The reservoir cannister keeps a vacuum source to operate these valves even under low vacuum conditions like WOT. Removing the canister won't prevent the heater from working, but it might stop blowing when you floor the throttle.

It does beg the question, why do you want to delete it? If you're trying to clean up the firewall, just relocate the canister under the front fender.
