junkyard would be your best bet. An aftermarket 4 row radiator may not fit under it either.

The radiator will not stay in without it, it can flop back towards the motor and be chewed up by the fan.

Don't ask me how I know this...

A top plate from any 69-72 Cutlass will work. 68 will work also but the fan shroud is a little different and I'm not sure that the plate is identical. Unfortunately there are two flavors of top plate, the one for the 2 and 3 row radiators and the much more rare one for the 4 row radiator. Four row top plates show up on Ebay but are not cheap. In a pinch you can make a 3 row plate work by removing the rubber insulators that hold the radiator and flatening the forward leg of the "U" shaped bracket that fits over the radiator end tank. Reinstall the insulator to the now L-shaped bracket and it will at least hold your radiator in place (if not win any beauty contests). If you're really ambitious, get a second top plate and section the U brackets, welding the two pieces together to make a wider one that fits the four row radiator.

I don't know about 73. 69-72 are all the same.

That looks like it. What's this one off of?

"I think" should be interpreted as "I don't know, but I want to sell you this".

The width of the U brackets is different on 4 row radiators vs. the 2 and 3 row radiators. If it didn't come off a 4 row, it won't work on one. See my post above.

the three row and four row brackets are destinctly different when set side by side.. That pic does look like a 4 core support, BUT not for a 70-72 car.

BTW I found the ebay auction that the pic is on...the pic of the one flipped over verifies that it is a 4 core. I just cant be sure this is for a 70-72 Cutlass though... something is not right about it...

HOWEVER if it is be prepared for the bidding to jump quite a bit on this one. Anyone that know EXACTLY what it will fit will up the price.

John

If you can do some fabricating I can provide two of the three core top plates and you could do the cut/weld as Joe suggested to get a wider saddle to fit over the top of the four core. I'm up in Medford Oregon so the shipping shouldn't be bad. $20 plus the ride for two 3 core top plates if you decide you want to try it. John
