power window help
my doors on my 84 cutlass are riddled with cancer. the local pull a part has a few cutlasses in stock and i was wondering if i find one with power windows what will i have to do to keep them? i know i have to trace the harness back to somwhere under the dash, but will my non power window car have the right hook ups under the dash? thanks for the help
If the 84 is like my 86, no, the window wiring will not be available under the dash in a non-power car. To keep the power windows you will need the complete window harness and the connections at the fuse block. I think there is a power distribution strip also that you will need high up under the left side dash, where power windows, locks and seat attach. The boneyard car should have all this.
You might also need to drill out holes in the door jambs for install the rubber wiring boots. Might as well put power locks in, too!
It should be possible to remove the power regulator and put back in the crank one. Check the way they both mount and see. This may be easier unless you really want power.

The fuseblock is the same so you do not need that.
The power distribution block I mentioned roughly resembles a small powerstrip, like what your computer stuff is plugged into.
It is mounted way up under the dash above the fuse block. It has one big plug that plugs into the fuse block - follow that on up. Since you have power locks, you ~might~ already have the 'strip'. It will have several other 'outlets' where other power assy's plug into.
I have seen them, but I do not have pictures. My 86 does not have PW or PL but I was thinking about intalling them LONG ago. In fact I have the PL set, just never installed it.
You would need the whole window harness out of the yard car, whick for a 2 door, is not too bad to extract.
