Plastic guide button on window

Is the plastic guide button on door windows on a 1970 cutlass supreme needed? If so can they be removed from old window?

It takes a special tool to remove them. I'm not sure if this is the right one or not though.

that won't work on the plastic pieces. They are #58 in this pic. They look like they snap together.

Here is a better exploded part view. I'm guessing you are talking about #15 & #16.
They just snap together.


15 is part # 9833748 and 16 is part # 8737255

No, GM routinely used unnecessary parts on their cars to increase production cost and reduce profit. Sorry, but every time I see a question like this, that's my first thought.
