Pipes getting a little rusty and leaky. Time for new. Been reading just a coupla threads about mufflers and who's is best, etc. Still looking for a few opinions on the Magnaflow V Flowmaster V Dynomax V Gardner (especially the Gardner) anyone have any experience with that system? I am looking to maintain that gurgly growl, no headers, stock 1971 442 conv. All opinions welcome.
Only thing I have to say is ... band clamps. Good quality band clamps. I just had to pull off some old pipe and where the old U clamps bit into the still good pipe took me far longer to deal with than anything else. Having to cut a slot in the inner pipe to They cost a lot more than the U clamps ... but if you're planing on keeping the car long enough to work on it every again ... it's money in the bank.

I am perfectly satisfied with Classic Exhaust. Have their stock system on the 442 and 67 TC and would say their system is stock. i got the same double talk from Gardner when I called them about 67 442 exhaust,,,
X2 on the band clamps. You can get straight ones for butt joints and stepped ones for overlap joints. Either way, it is MUCH easier to disassemble. Which system to pick depends on what you want. I prefer Dynomax mufflers with 2.5" pipes. The stock system is too restrictive and I would only use it on a 100% correct restoration. For anything else, it's aftermarket.
I just installed http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-sga10v on my 69 with these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-692250. This is the first exhaust i've ever purchased or installed and it was pretty much foolproof. Only minor cutting of a few pipes where they crossed over. The quality seemed good although I don't have any experience with the other brands you mentioned to compare. My grand total came in under $500 and I think it sounds great.
