Example of Oldsmobile Torque
Here is a picture of my 67 Olds 98 Rocket "launching" at the dragstrip. It runs 14:18 @ 100 mph, 2:00/60' time. She is a slim 4680lbs. Rear-end is a 3:08 posi, thats the best gears I have found, both 67's have them. Engine was built for torque. She moves pretty good for a "Big" girl. Ken 3-14-2007-42.jpg
It has a 3:08 posi rear-end out of a 1965 Olds 98. In 1965/1966 Olds used the Pontiac rear-end in the B-bodies, except the cheaper Jetstar. In 1967 Olds went to a 12 bolt O-type but larger ring & pinion gears than the A-body. After market gears for either type rear-end are non-existing. The best I have ever seen was a 3:08. They did make 3:42 but it would have been special order. Both 98's came with 2:56/2:73 peg-legs, (open,non-posi.) Both types are heavier duty than the A-body (Cutlass) type but the 67-70 Olds B-body type is a bit heavier duty than the Pontiac type. So far the rear-end & axles has held up fine, ya, I have some spare, just in case. By the way, yes, she spanked the truck. It took runner-up money that day, run under the dial-in by 0.04. All my cars have names, her is "Money-Maker." She is very consistant. Drive in, runs low 14's, depends on the temperure, "how cool the air is," Then drive home. It has the switch-pitch turbo 400. I leave on "hi-stall," switch to "lo-stall" at the 60' light. I love those switch-pitch trans. At 3/4 track she's really just starting to pull. Her is a pic of her heart, the air-conditioning is charged and works, "when I put the belt back on." Ken Timmeplus6798011.jpg
