Antenna in window

I'm trying to find if anyone makes a front windshield for a 66 Cutlass with the antenna imbedded? Thanks

Not that I've ever seen. GM didn't start doing this until the 1970 model year. You can retrofit that windshield back to the 1968 A-body cars, but not earlier than that.

Hi Joe,
I am converting my antenna to be in the windshield of my 1969 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Sedan. As you said they were not offered until 1970 so I have no diagrams in my 1969 assembly manuals. Do you have a picture of were to drill the hole in the body for a similar 1970 model?

Thanks,
Noel

Just a thought and it's quite possible I just had a bad antenna, but...

I had a 1970 GTO that came with an AM/FM mono radio (rebuilt and tuner-adjusted), front speaker only, with the antenna in the windshield. The reception was horrible compared to my '68 4-4-2 with a fender mounted antenna, my ''69 4-4-2 with a power antenna and even my '71 Corvette with the driver quarter-mounted antenna. Unless you were near the radio station you were trying to pick up, the windshield antenna was more-or-less worthless for my '70 GTO, in my opinion. I even went through the radio instructions for tuning and it didn't help. Again, just my opinion, but I much preferred the mounted antenna over the windshield antenna.

This isn't the best picture, but the square cutout shown by the red arrow is where the windshield antenna connects. There is a recess area beneath the square cutout where the radio antenna lead mounts. The second pic shows the antenna lead and the RCA connector mounts in the recess area.

There is a recess behind the square cutout where the RCA connector mounts.

This is the radio antenna lead. The RCA connector mounts to the cowl.

It’s not just your opinion, it’s a scientific fact. We discussed this in a communications class when covering antenna designs. I remember because I drove a 70 Supreme with the windshield antenna and was disappointed to learn how inferior it was to 30” mast mounted to the sheet metal.

Don't do it! It's a trick! I installed dozens of fender-mount antennas in cars with the windshield antennas because they were so ineffective. There's a reason they only lasted a short time. Even with an antenna signal booster, they suck!

Decades ago I installed a 1970 windshield with antenna in my 68 442. As others have said repeatedly, performance sucks. Of course, today I just listen to MP3s from my phone, so the antenna is irrelevant.

What, and miss out on all the nostalgia of the crackly AM radio experience?
