Anyone know of a way to add power to my 95 cutlass ciera sl? Any power increases would be helpful and I'm willing to spend some decent money on it because I intend to keep this car for a long time.

 

This body style had the Buick V6 available as an option. A supercharged 3800 can be installed with a lot of work.

 

Which motor?

 

sorry, it's a 3.1 liter v6....wasn't thinking when I made the thread obviously

 

If its got the 3.1 liter, then the 3.8 liter should fit in there to, and of course the supercharged one would be the best bet. Let me know how it goes, because I am currently looking for a 3.8 supercharged for my 91 Supreme convertible.

 

3.8SC is an easy bolt-in but will probably require a lot of wiring work to make right. You'll also likely need a better fuel pump and stronger motor mounts and axles. Transmission could use freshening as well.

Want more torque, comparable horsepower? Try the 4.9L Cadillac FWD V8, available in 94-95 DeVilles that didn't get a Northstar motor. Will require some fabrication to fit motor mounts and accessory brackets. Try Fiero forums for information on these swaps. Also I have been told Silhouette/TransSport/LuminaAPV engine cradles and axles are very easy to swap into an A-body like a Ciera. Sway bars front and rear are also good parts to grab as well as rear disc brakes. Buy a whole van (bad motor/trans) for $400-$600 or so, grab what you need, scrap the rest, use the money from the scrap to get your Caddy V8, spend a few hundred on brackets/mounts/wiring, and have serious power on a low budget.

 

My family driver, a '99 Buick LeSabre has a factory re-manufactured 3.8 in it that is pretty solid for a V6. About three months after I bought the car (used) the engine blew up, no.3 rod bearing went south and lost oil pressure. I paid for the re-manned engine and have been happy with it since. I think they are pretty good engines and your car is smaller than the LeSabre so you should feel it even more.
