1993 olds cutlass starting question

As the cold weather is upon us in Minnesota my car seems hard to start. Its good if it fires right away(acted up 2X so far). After cranking quite a bit it starts.

I am used to newer cars that you never press the gas on. Is there a trick like holding it partway down or something.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh I have the 3.4 V6..

But your car, even being a '93, IS a newer car, isn't it? By "newer," you mean fuel-injected, right? No carburetor? No pressing the gas pedal to the floor to set the choke?

You should never have to push down on the gas pedal to start the car, warm or cold engine, winter or summer weather. If it requires excessive cranking, there could be any number of reasons. How many miles on the car? When were the spark plugs last changed? When was it last tuned up? Fuel injectors cleaned?

It is fuel injected. The previous 2 owners kept fairly good records. New fuel pump and filter last 2 years. I seem to have trouble is when I let off the key a bit early. Plugs and tune up not listed so maybe that would be a good place to start. I put 2 cans of sea foam in the last few months but never cleaned the injectors other than that.. Thanks for your quick reply!!

Get your battery checked. Cold weather and batteries don't get along very well. When you turn the key "ON" (not starting) the volts really shouldn't be much below 11.9

Hmmmm.... I would look at the plugs and wires next. Have they ever been replaced? What about coil packs and ingition control mod? Fairly cheap, if you know where to look

I probly try plugs and or wires next. It runs great and got me 28 mpg to SD. But that does not mean maybe the plugs are not bad.
