It's to bad they put that hood on the car. It could have been the ultimate sleeper!! I would have to say that if someone were to give me one of those, I would definatly think about installing it. That is once the 455 gives up. That could be this year or 10. Who knows.

Even with a dual plane manifold it would be hard to get that motor under the hood. I have enough trouble with my 468, running a flat hood. I think I'm going to go back to the hi-rise single plane and a scoop.

It's an OLDSMOBILE. I say they are want-a-be chevy guys. Just to cheap to buy a real chevy, so they buy the Olds cheaper and try to make it a chevy.
Most of the installs I've seen have been hak jobs. Wires all over, positive battery cable hanging across the back of the engine, A/C not hook up or the heater also, and a cheap *** flex fan from wall mart with no shroud and radiator flex hose and cheap *** plastic fuel filters.
But that is just me. I turn away when I see this stuff.

A lot of guys on the pro-touring builds that are building early Olds have gone to the "dark side" using LS series motors. Have not seen to many BB GM crate motors though.

OK, for everyone to consider. The non-olds power section was created for members to discuss different engines they might put in their car. It's a forum where they can brainstorm, ask questions and get help from each other. It IS NOT a place where people can go on this site to bash oldsmobile engines. If they want to go chevy, that's fine, its their car to do what they want with. But if they want to say Chevy Rules and Olds Suck they need to find another site. If they just enjoy behaving like a troll and stirring the pot, again, they can go somewhere else to do that. We are a community and there are sideboards on how members are expected to behave.

As I pointed out to him on that other thread- if you were telling him he was going too far, he might ought to listen to you as you are the one of the more lenient on here when it comes to engine transplants.

I don't despise Chevrolets at all. There are several I'd like to own but it's hard to find one that hasn't been messed with. I want an original or restored to original, and those are getting rarer and rarer. Most Chevy folks can't understand my point about originality being uber important. The fact that 75% or more of Chevrolets do not have the engine/trans they left the factory with, and most are not the color they left the factory wearing, makes an original unmolested Chevrolet a prize. Not everybody wants a red ElCamino with a dressed-up crate 350 and "personalized" to the owner's taste (or to what he thinks will sell quick, which is a significant driving force in Chevy-world). If it ain't original, I'm not interested.

Then when some twit like this comes on here and basically declares that no other engine is any good at all, and then won't shut up... well, now y'all know why transplanting Chevy engines into anything but Chevrolets makes me red around the gills.

I don't get the $10,000 motor in $1000.00 cars unless you are building a hard core street race gruge car. If you are you need to be build something quiet with a turbo. To each his own I guess.

I'm sorry but were any of you impressed by that video? Although it had what sounded like a rough idle (or a dub of someone eating crackers over a mild engine) the car barely spun the tires unless he did a brake stand. Even then, when the car was given gas it sounded like a turd...

We put a 502 crate motor in my friends 69S convert. He wanted reliability and performance. This was by far the easiest way to go. I drove it yesterday to test the brakes. 4 wheel Wilwood disc. He has so much cash in that car I think he should have Benjamin on the vanity plates. But it does haul ***. I have a 455 in my Cutlass and I told him we need to race. I think I can get him. His DD is an Audi A8 so you can see what he's used to. Here's a pic of before and after we built the car. It is lowered w/ Hotchkis galore and as reliable as a 65k car better be! that 77 w/ the 572 needs that much motor to go fast IMO. I kept mine Olds because, well, it's an Olds.

It's a 620hp motor.....there's nothing UN-cool about it.

Like anything else, there will be people who appreciate it, and people who despise it.

Yes we have.

I do get a royal kick out of the self righteous hypocrits who "play the role" about Olds needing an Olds
but self admit in the same posts several times that they've done Chevy motors into other non-Chevy cars.

It's comical. I say to each their own, do what makes you happy.

I respect peoples point of view, but I also get a kick on how many of them want to tell me how to spend my money and what to do with my car. My opinion as always will be the only person that really has to like the car is the owner. These are all blank canvas's to become whatever vision the artist has, period. Opinions are like A$$holes, we all have one, although some are bigger than others.

I like my Funny Looking Chevelle!

Hypocritical? Yes. I put a Chebby in a Buick because I was broke and had the parts. LSX? Like I said, everyone is doing that just as we did in the day I was coming up so your point is taken and correct. See you at 66. You can watch my tail lights. A 4 door Ford no less. LOL!

Relying on a modern AWD twin turbo F*rd car to do the talking when you're on an Olds forum ??

Scared to take the Olds out to race ??
You can meet me at the real race track. I'll be there all weekend with the rest of the local pro-touring racers
We don't do straight line races, we do racetracks with turns. Bring the Olds.

You have an LSX based car. What's the difference from a Ford? Are you going to run your car at the Autobahn? That looks like a really good time. A friend of mine owns the north course record. Dan K. I don't know which class though. I called you out first. Nah, nah. I'll run you with the Olds too. I just thought it would be all the more humiliating getting beat by a 4400 lb 4 door Ford. We should meet sometime over the summer all the same. No offense in my comments, I just like to stir it up. You got A/C in that thing?

Gee I dunno......

We're on an Oldsmobile site, I have an Oldsmobile, you have an Oldsmobile......
So I guess yeah we should invite Ford into the mix since your Olds .....is not something you have confidence in ??

No, you just thought you'd try to sound cool because you own a Twin Turbo modern crossover SUV. (Yes, it's huge)

It's fast, but if we want to play the "who's cooler because I'm faster" game
I could just bring my Hayabusa and really embarrass ya.

Bike1.jpg

So lets keep the challenges Olds on Olds on a Oldsmobile forum shall we ?? I'd hate to see your crossover be the best you've got. LOL jk
BTW I don't mind breakin *****. I just found your initial attempt funny since you busted yourself.

My point being, your Olds is now a hybrid. May as well be a Chevy. That bike is the one I would buy if I could. Bad history w/ bikes. Kids are adamantly against me owning one. Grandpa got wiped out on his. I will run you with the Olds however. I can see it now, GRUDGE MATCH RACING at ROUTE 66!!! Nice toys you got there but your girlfriend on the bike must be one of the Lee sisters. Is it Hom or Ug?

Now, I gotta say, this is turning into a fun thread! You gotta admit Aces...your car is a "hybrid" now....at least it still looks good! I'm sure it will run pretty well too! Is it finished yet? The "girlfriend" comment is priceless....OK, I'll go back over here now....carry on!

Hybrid is a term more for modern Gasoline/Electric anemic vehicles.
It's a "Custom" GM classic with a modern GM drivetrain.

"Hybrid" just doesn't sound correct.
If someone was to put a Nissan or Ford motor in it, even then it wouldn't be a hybrid.
It would be a bastard, and then we could talk about racing a Ford crossover against it

hybrid (hbrd)
An organism that is the offspring of two parents that differ in one or more inheritable characteristics, especially the offspring of two different varieties of the same species or the offspring of two parents belonging to different species.

See you at the Autobahn.

I want to meet at Route 66 in Joliet. His car isn't done. He wants to meet at The Autobahn Racetrack very near Route 66 to spank me in my Olds that can't go around corners. We both have valid points and everything said is tongue in cheek. I'm pretty sure I'll meet him at the Autobahn to watch anyway. Should be a great day. 66 is open about 8 times a summer on Fridays for test and tune. It's really nice. A beautiful summer night. Hot Rods. A car club usually sponsors a show so you can walk around and shoot the breeze. It is one of my favorite things to do. I live 10 min from the Racetrack so it's really easy for me to go.

So i understand the LS mods in our olds due to the relibility and MPG you get off of it. But the carb'd engine? that doesnt make sense to me.

No its fuel injected. At least from what i saw, same as garyolds and firefighter, and when i do mine, it too will have an LS in it. After all, it is a GM motor.
