Well, I did power it with a GM drivetrain!!

I've stuck a couple pics up in my thread of the 81 Sport Omega, but I figured I'd better put up a few more for you. Stats: 87 Dodge Shelby Charger restyled like the 81-83 Charger 2.2. 2007 GM Bahama Blue. Of course the biggest deal of this car is it is not front wheel drive anymore and sports a GM L67 SC3800,T5 5speed,independent suspension from an 89 AWD Pont. 6000STE with a Ford 8.8"IRS diff w/3.55 posi. Curb weight about 2,500lbs. Now that it's close to done I can get going on the Omega.
I had a 79 Omni024 when I was in high school which is the same bodystyle and I always liked the Charger 2.2 hoping to one day buy one back then. I loved the bodystyle but that front drive bs had to go. After doing my 78 Lesabre Turbo Coupe I wanted to "build" a car and I sought out one of these. Sadly the Charger 2.2's are almost non-existent and I found a decent Shelby Charger to use as a starting point. They even had a Detomaso024 in 80&81, but with less than 2,000 of those made finding one of those is impossible. One did come up on ebay last year but he thought that thing was worth the price of gold because it was a Detomaso-HAHA! He had a buy it now of $10,000 and it needed serious work.
I think it's cool that you got a car YOU liked all prepped up.
We all look at our investments differently.
Not everyone likes the same thing.
Not everyone invests money into a car for resale-ability.
Some people build their cars just for their own enjoyment, which is obviously your case.
Have fun with it.

I would be interested in seeing how you did the rear suspension, any pics? Coil overs in place of the struts?
Btw, isn't the 3.8 based on the 215 V8? Both of which were used in Oldsmobiles? That kinda makes this an Olds engine thread for those "haters" out there

I always liked these little cars since a friend had an '85 Shelby (actually 2 of them) and this one is particularly interesting because I''ve had a few FWD cars that I dreamed of doing a RWD conversion on....!
For some more pics on the car and more info without me having to explain it all over again just because I hate typing click on the link to my cardomain page and you'll see how it fits in there. I still need to get the seats done hopefully this winter. It'd be nice if someone would buy my 78 Lesabre turbo coupe too which would give me a little room and some funds to finish this thing up. http://www.cardomain.com/id/supercharged024
Very different for sure! Why? I'ts a simple matter of weight ratios! The same madness of putting a blown 302 into a Pinto...
Of course going from FWD to AWD had to have been quite a challenge!
We look forward to a drive report soon...

Wow
Some incredible engineering there. I'm not real big on custom builds or Mopars but I really like what you did. Nice color choice & I thought the 024's were so much better looking that the later model Shelby Chargers particularly the rear/taillight area.
Those are also my favorite wheels...I kind of wonder how they'd look on one of my beater Fieroz. Thanks for sharing those pics.

Thanks, I like the 024's and the Charger 2.2's such as how I redid the car. For those that don't know these cars I picked some of the styling from both the 024 and the 2.2. The sail panels are from the 024 as are the tricolor tail lights. You're right, the later(84-87)tail lights suck. These have more curve to them. Also the earlier ducktail rear spoiler I think looks much better than the small whale tail spoiler on the Shelby Charger. I do need to redo a couple things this winter so hopefully by spring it'll really be ready to show. My first crack at the engine cradle/rack&pinion mount/swaybar mounts looks kind of crappy so I'm going to be doing a little revision.
