Has anyone seen Lords of the car hoards i think it is called? There is some drama on there but I like there idea behind the show.

They find these people that hoard cars and then they restore one of your cars in exchange for your collection or part of your collection of cars is how you pay for it.

 

I watched that the other day. It's like Overhaulin and Desert Car Kings in one. They do nice stuff and clean someone's yard up at the same time. Good idea IMO.

 

I saw that show too. You can tell the drama is planned out. What I do like is their attention to quality and the fact it looks like they do it right. I liked how they kept the pontiac engine in that 55 cheifton they did.

Its basically what they do, there thing behind it is helping out people who have a problem with collecting cars and they value what they need to make a profit from everything with restoring your car. But they do a hot rod build to it, not back to original

I think I've seen all of the shows mentioned here, although I watch only a few with regularity. I do watch F&L, but it's purely entertainment, and all in all, it's pretty lame. The only thing I've learned from "Master mechanic" Aaron is that nearly every project car needs to be lowered, get an $8,000 crate Chevy engine, and Willwood brakes. The only thing I've learned from RR is how to lose money fast and that AA should be thriving in Dallas. My main reason for watching is Sue, who is IMO the funniest thing on television, and whose interior and upholstery work puts GMG's work to shame.

On the other hand, I've learned a several useful things from "Wheeler Dealers", when I can get past the Brit-isms. I've even picked up a tidbit or two from "All Girls' Garage", although most of the time they're working on relatively new and totally irrelevant (to me) vehicles. At least I've seen the girls wielding welders, hammers, and wrenches, while I've rarely seen RR handle anything not in a 12oz. can.

Chip Foose and Boyd Coddington are nearly interchangeable, so I guess it's no wonder that they dislike each other... and both of their shows are so far removed from the financial reality of what most of us could ever dream of doing, the myriad of product placements and overt product promotion are understandable. But at least they both show what is possible, even if unlikely.

I'll probably continue to watch F&L, if only to get a little chuckle from Sue and Tom.

 

Agree the shows are for TV ratings and not much is really learned after the drama of the $$$ and beer (F&L), the fights (Graveyard Cars) and the babes and constant ads (All Girls). But that said, the F&L show where they fitted a 2004 Ford Crown Vic front end into a truck got us thinking and we did the same on my '50 Olds now in final assembly. Pictures to follow if I can ever figure out how to post them here. Relax purists, the car has a J2 motor and will be completely stock appearing, unless you look underneath at the disk brakes, struts and rack and pinion front end.


Re Foose and Boyd, Foose is still around and in my opinion is a class act but Boyd is in car heaven (or hell depending on your opinion) but the one I kinda miss is West Coast Customs with the bantam rooster Ryan...


WCC has a good idea of taking an old body and putting it on a new chassis. My next project maybe be a blower motor in the back seat of a prius driving through a Ford 9". The engine cover would be molded fiberglass in the shape of a pile of luggage. If I could only register it in sunny CA...

I don't watch any of those shows anymore they are all crap.

 

I like the show I think they bounce of each other very well, however as the shows got bigger and more successful I think it's got a bit silly. Richards to busy interested in his restaurant and making as much money as possible which is good but he's using the show to promote his restaurant to much and I don't get their little films they do like the smokey and the bandit one it takes up to much off the air time and to much of Richards rich friend.

 

Apparently Richard picked up, and I quote, "the Holy Grail of Pontiacs" Serial #'s 1 and 2 Firebirds. He states the he is or did do a 100 point resto on them. I could only imagine. I saw it on Fox news this morning, but have not looked for more info on it.

 

Too much DRAMA. Drama = Off Switch on the TV...marginal entertainment in the cars only. Who needs more drama? The only one out there worth the watch is Chip and Sam Foose. Class acts all the way.

 

I saw that also on fox news and he claims the resto on both cars =took 60 days when most take at least a year he words it is questionable to me but het its TV
also it was found here in CT I might have to watch that episode to see where in CT

I've watched all the shows as well and think Peter Klute from Legendary, although different, is probably the most realistic show out there right now. Really nice cars, no drama and pretty straight forward show. Covers a wide rage of topics and keeps it moving. Not like watching 2 hours of restoration antics on just one car. But i also love Sue on F&L. She is a hoot!

 

Tom & Jordan were fired for some lame excuses... they have a new guy overseeing the firebirds as if its a corporation and bunch of newbies...

 

Even Richard said I'm doing these cars in 60 days and you all watching are probably thinking I'm lying. Or some such. He said, well I'm doing them. So BS? I don't know.
I watched both episodes and enjoyed them. The live thing promoting the bar I just zip through on the DVR.

 

Nothing useful to say here but i like all those my favorite is the "Gas Monkey Garage" show "FastnLoud" for pure:

Is that the one that had the carb problem? I admit I haven't watched that show in close to a year.

 

I liked the show in the beginning. I'm losing interest, either because that's my nature after watching something long enough or how the show has changed or a combo. Sue is a hoot. Tom had a few funny lines. Too bad he's not on the show any more. I wonder who gets paid to be on the TV show, whether it's just Rich or the whole gang. I suspect Tom wouldn't have been fired for being late if he got paid for being part of the TV show so maybe it's just Rich.

A couple things for other posts in this thread:
- Lou was always a blast to watch. I hope we get more of him on Car Fix. There's good entertainment with him and Jared and some tips.
- I'll take a look at the Lords of the car Hoards. Sounds like that might be good.

I'm an office dweller by day. I like to get info on these shows before I take something apart on the 67 I have no clue on and sometimes seeing stuff like someone put a couple pieces of angle iron in a vise to make a simple brake is helpful for me. There were little to no tips in F&L, but it was entertaining at least for a while.

I thought it was just me ... but yeah, the show has gone from being about the cars to being about the celebrity.

 

X2 on love the car shows. IMO we need to support car shows unless they are really bad (Pimp My Ride?) or they will go byebye like the Dodo bird. I miss RIDES, that was a great show.

Apparently there were 54 episodes, I've probably seen a quarter of them.

Fast'n Loud is not a reference material source but if your a car nut I think it does have some entertainment value. Aron did a cool job on the Falcon.

 

Any 40ish year old man that screams wooooooooooo and asks for his next beer I wouldn't trust any further than I could throw them. Profits are a lie. I have no clue why anyone, after watching one show would ever do business with him. Boyd coddigton was the same... The amount of times they have to redo their work and the infighting would tell me to never buy a boyd built car. Foose... Seems to be a nice guy and no drama. Jesse James.... what an ***.. (of course people think I am too) Now they have the fake misfits garage piggy backed on fart and lewd. Talking trash but giving them tv time hahahahaha I watch because I like old cars. Anything they say is taken with a grain of salt. Scripted lies... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO where's my beer.......

yeah true its entertainment for sure lol some nice cars come out of it and i sometimes wonder if they send them out and bring them back done LOL
and yeah the misfits was just another way to get another show , that chevelle they did came out pretty nice. i try and watch all the car shows for the most part i think they are ok its cars and im into them .
and i keep telling my kids to write to foose LoL That would be a dream come true for sure!
i new here and been looking at some of the guys builds and there are some real talented people here ! its amazing seeing there builds!

 

As, I am reading some of these responses it is true these are cars shows based for entertainment! I think what got me into cars in the first place was power block trucks, he built a few, as he did he educated you on custom work what your end goal should be and detail work. It had advertisement in the show, but drama free for the most part

IMO: It looks like they had to bring back the Misfits due to the fact that after they were fired the shop had less entertainment and less drama. So it became less interesting to some. Tom was a hoot. Although I watched him and his sidekick mess up to some cars due to their lack of knowledge. Example: Using cheap oil and no additive when breaking in flat tappet engines. Or using a hammer on the Bradley to remove the ignition switch. I don't think these boys ever heard of using the internet or a manual. But where was their supervisor when they were doing all of this?

Damn! and what a nice build ! my daughters like the foose show with all stuff that they do with stealing the cars , i could live without it but i must admit sometimes its funny to see the guys get all pissed off LOL i watched one last week where they did this guys truck and the lady was calling him a charity case he was freaking out Hahaha!

 

Is anyone watching graveyard cars? I never see the crew work on the mopars, it's all goofing around.. Somehow the cars get magically done to factory specs although I do enjoy seeing the cars when they are all done.
