Installing molding clips
I would like to speak with someone that has knowledge or experience with molding clips for the front fender of a 1984 Ninety Eight.
Once the molding comes off because of the deteriorating clip, it is difficult to determine what actually held it in place. By looking at the new clips that I have I am thinking that there may be push nuts that held it in place inside of the fender. To make things more confusing the new clips have two different type studs on each side of the clip...obviously one side or the other will have to be cut off. One stud is solid, the other is hollow with a tapered end and slots to allow it to contract, but the end is not flared as to keep it from retracting from the hole in the fender.
Anyone?

Those clips are correct and do not have to be cut.... The hollow end goes thru the sheet metal and then the solid pin is tapped inward to spread the hollow end of the clip to hold it in place...... The trim piece is then snapped into place over the clips.....

Thank you so much, mystery solved. My fellow 84 Ninety Eight Owner friend in Atlanta and I have pondered over this for about a year, ever since I got the clips. I would have never thought to do that and I'm very appreciative for your help and reply.
