Hi and welcome, you need to check out Fusick automotive products inc and download his catalog www.fusick.com, they carry all kinds of parts we need for the big cars.

I will correct my question... I have NO idea why I wrote LEFT... Actually, what I meant was, back in the days, where a RIGHT hand fender mirror avaible?

Sorry for the mixup

The factory did not offer a passenger-side outside mirror in 1964. Fusick P/N SM6308B is a reproduction of the factory driver's side outside mirror (non-remote). It might work on the passenger side, but I cannot say for sure. It does have the V-notch in the base to sit on the fender peak.

Well, for 1962 anyway, the driver side outside rear view mirror works just fine on the passenger side.

Which unfortunately doesn't help with the OP's question, as the 62 mirrors are completely different from the 63-64 mirrors. The latter sit on the peak of the fender and have a "V" cut into the base. I don't know if the "V" is symmetric or canted to one side.

Well, as for "peaks" and "v's," here is how the 62 mirror mounts. It caused no problems when I mounted an outside mirror on the passenger side of the car.

You can use a non-Starfire mirror on driver or passenger side of any 1964 full-size Oldsmobile. The Starfire base is different due to the fender peak molding which the others do not have.

You're completely missing the point. Mirrors for the 63-64 full size cars don't have a flat base like that. The bottom of the base is cut into a V-notch and fits over the peak on top of the fender. Some mirrors have a bias in the way the base is cut, so they lean outward, away from the window. That's why some cars, even with round mirror heads, have different RH/LH outside mirrors. As I said above, I don't know if the 63-64 outside mirror has that sort of bias, but since the base is contoured to only fit one way on the fender, if it DOES have the bias, it probably can't be used on both sides. Frankly, from this photo, I still can't tell if the V notch is symmetric or not.

If you are lucky and the left and right are the same don't mount it where it looks (measures) like the left is mounted. Most likely you won't be able to adjust it to see correctly behind the car.Test the position first using masking tape to hold it before you drill and attach it permanently....Tedd

The offset on the base of the 63/64 is minimal and you can use the left hand non remote mirror on the right side and get away with it. I can get the measurements for the drilled holes on the front passenger door as I have the original paperwork for the install here, not sure where but I still have it.

That's also a non-Starfire remote LH mirror mounted on a Starfire. Lot of difference in remote mirror installations on those. Even the peak moldings for fender and door are different due to the mirror mounting and cable holes.

Hi Rocketraider, I thought the peak moulding on these had a pocket in them so you could mount the mirror on the fender?

Two holes for mounting studs and a larger hole for the cable, no pocket that I've ever seen. Before I learned the value of a parts book I bought a NOS 63-64 remote mirror only to find it would in no shape form or fashion mount to the molding on the car. Expensive lesson learned.
